So....what planet are these made on?

  3. The Alex wheels you mention should be available relatively cheaply from any Raleigh dealer in your area. Their older wheels, marketed under the Equation name, were reasonably light and of a high quality relative to their price. One of the guys at our shop put 1200 miles on those wheels with no problems.
    The Nevations, I'm guessing Venus.
My recommendation would be to check out some of the wheels at LBS in your area and see what they have and what they recommend for you in light of your riding style and requirements.

I too have been trying to research Alex wheels. They are made in Taiwan and their website says they are the same factory that makes Ritchey wheels. They come on some Trek, Jamis and Specialized bikes mainly the lower priced models. As far as their arrow wheels with fewer spokes, I have found from a search on this site that some people have had problems with reliablity after a thousand miles but that is just anecdotal. Road bike review has nothing about Alex rims and wheels. I have seen some people (on Ebay) claim that they are under liscence to use Rolf's design but that doesn't mean anything about reliablity. Being a clydesdale myself I will stick to my Ultegra hub Mavic Open pro combination. While not particularly aero they are fairly light.
But I am using my bike in a pure recreational mode at this time

  5. Thanks for the responses and information .

  6. My first non-WaltMart bike had a set of Alex DA-32. Pretty decent wheel semi-aero. Then I upgraded to Ksyrium Elites and it was no comparisan. You should be able to get a set a Bontrager Racelites many places on the net for under $300. Not sure what the Alexs are going for, but unless it's a super deal I'd go with maybe a Mavic Ksyrium Equipe (or Elite if you can swing the cash) or a Racelite set.
