I am rather small and have wondered how a jersey should fit... very tight so it wont flap? or a bit of room to move yet not loose.
I have mesured my chest with a breath in and its about 35inch around my chest skin tight.
Whats size tops should i aim for, i can get a 18 inch armpit to armpit but i guess that makes 18x2inch (front and back) and thats 36inch.... does that sound about right?
my current top is 47cm armpit to armpit, hence 37inch and that flaps at speed or windy conditions
I find that a reasonably firm fit is best . Allow enough room so its not too tight once you load your pockets up. Allow for a bot of circulation through the top.
Helps in winter as well, Fits nicely under a long top for a bit of insulation.

they are so dam expencive in the shops. Yet i can't find any smaller than my current 47cm armpit to armpit (it flaps a bit)

I didn't say this, but you could go in to a shop, try some on and then order over the net.
Before you flamers jump on me, I should state that my own ethics would prevent me from doing this, but it is certainly an option. If you have a good LBS, consider giving them your business. If they are overpriced in comparison with other shops (not the net), or unhelpful, walk right in.
'Jerseys' tend to come in two types of cuts. There is the 'race fit' which is designed to hug your body, leaving just enough room to move your arms around. And there is also the loose fit type, which provides more room in the chest area and doesn't use as tight elastic around the sleeves and bottom of the jersey.
Try them on and see which type feels the most comfortable. As an example, Cannibal jerseys are a 'race fit' cut, whereas the majority of Netti jerseys are 'loose/comfort fit'.
I prefer the race fit cut as I don't like the jersey flapping around in the breeze, or the loose sleeves.

artemidorus, i agree with your point, however i paid $40 for my last top (giant) and i went to my local and it was $149 when i was looking for my size, thats a HUGE mark up and being a student i cant give that sort of money away. if it was $10 or 15% sort of thing i would give them my money, as i know its costing them to keep the shop running but......
I havn't gone into a shop to try their cloths on knowing i will use the net, as i would feel bad.
I will keep looking and saving.Azzac i like the tight fit also, just being so tiny i struggle to find one that is as small as me 🙂 (wonder if i will be able to say that when i am older ...)
