  1. I am planning a a three week trip of daily bicycle rides of 40 miles
at a very casula pace. The weather at this time of year will be about
55-60 F in the day and 40-50 F at night. It will be very windy. Will
sneakers be ok or could my feet get cold after a few hours? What
wouild be the best way to dress for the day? How's this?:

    1. Coolmax shirt
    2. Light weight wind/water resistant jacket
    3. Sporthill pants
    4. Wool sock
    5. Brooks sneakers

I will also take along a light fleece top, gloves and hat.

  2. you seem to have it right. Layers. Layers. Layers.

Your clothing sounds reasonable, but I'd definitely recommend cycling gloves
and cycling shoes with stiff soles for that amount of riding. Your hands
and feet will thank you. I also couldn't do it without padded cycling
shorts (with tights or leg warmers for those temperatures).

You might want to consider neoprene booties. You'll be SO miserable if
    your feet get cold.

Or waterproof/breatheable socks. They're thin and fit over your
regular socks, and they keep your feet much warmer. Sugoi makes
Stretch Bosui socks that are very nice.

If 40-50 F is really uncomfortably cold for you, you might
especially feel it in exposed extremities, like fingertips.
Particularly at the lower end of that temperature range.
So /full-fingered/ gloves might be a consideration.

The old-school sneakers I'm familiar with are really dreadful
in rain; so much so, one might as well forego footwear at all.

A thin wool pullover can be a wonderful layering accessory,
and often more comfie than any synth fabric windshell thingie.

A sheet or two of pre-cut reflective tape shapes to stick all
over your cycling clothes might come in handy, especially in
inclement weather. Such sheets are cheap and readily
    available.

    cheers,
    Tom
