Riding in Paris

Just take your bike and get lost -- in Paris! Summer months should be great for biking because there are far fewer cars + lots of bike paths... I recomend the open air museum path that runs along the Seine. But nothing is quite so spectacular as riding over one of the bridges over the Seine, early morning, in the quiet city streets. It is a wonderful way to enjoy the city.

Don't forget, Paris is really quite small, you can go ahead and get lost, you can get back home quickly.

Yes, just about 5 mio. population..

Merci, la Fougère! That's what I wanted to post but didn't have the info on how many kilometers Paris measures. You can go from south to north in about a half hour, from east to west maybe a little more, depends where you're headed. But you do want to know how to get around the hills, one wrong move and you can find yourself climbing more than you'd expect.

I think you mean downtown! If not, I`m a bit confused! I live in a town with population of 300 k and it`s about 10 km from one side to another! I was in Paris too and it must be more..ok but you (less`go) will probably know..

I mean Paris, the city. If you speak of the banlieu also, yes it is much bigger...

Bois de Bolougne to Bois Vincennes is 10.6 k according to www.mappy.fr

Yup, that would be the size of the city of Paris. Dense population, I guess, but it's not a city of high-rises, either. It is much smaller (geographically) than it would seem. And once you get to know it it's just a bunch of different neighborhoods. Quite navigable by bike.

Well i am just about to move to Paris, Velizy ( near versaille ).
Wanted to know what the cycling is like out there. I know i can travel south and get some good hills 🙂 but are there alot of clubs in the area. Anyone know Velizy??? Looking forward to it but wil miss the Dublin mountains 🙁

There are fantastic groups rides from Bullion, near Chevreuse, every Tues and Thurs at 6pm. Meet just north of the village and get a fast ride through the forest of Rambouillet. Lots of guys from the Trappes and Bois D'Arcy clubs.
