I have never been to Gaspe, but here is a bit of advise that you might find helpful. There is a very good book on Cycle Touring called "The Canadian Cycling Association's Complete Guide to Bicycle Touring in Canada" by Elliott Katz. You should be able to find a copy in any Canadian library, I would hope. If not, go to < www.abebooks.com > . I paid $24.00 Can. for my copy in a book store. It gives a good review of road conditions, and distances, for just about any tour you might want to take in Canada.

Make sure you do not take the route from Quebec city to Gaspe, you'll never get there alive. The trucks drivers will try to run of the road, they are a bunch of ******** idiot.

THAT sounds like some very useful advice.
I would add that similar conditions apply to the north shore of Lake Superior.............no shoulders, very busy highway with many, many trucks.........byfred

Don't have to take their trip, just the itinirary and plan similare stops.

If you plan on camping, one of the best area is just next to Gaspé (slitghtly North), its called ''Parc Forion'', amazing park but you must reserved well in advanced since you will be in peak season.

The coast is much nicer, clockwise, either ways.

You may want to look into dominant wind, to make this part of your strategy.

I think the Gaspé start is probaly nicer but the arrival at the Rocher Percé would be definately the high point after your efforts ..

fyi : I never did the trip by bike, but several times via car

I fully agree with you, Gaspe is a nice but hard area to cycle thru, but you must get there by car other wise you'll get kill cycling from Quebec city to Gaspe. While in Gaspe, 2 years ago, I meet a group of French cyclist that had pedalled from Quebec city to Gaspe area, "never again will ever do that" the truck driver in this country takes a great pleasure in pushing us (cyclist) off the road. We could see a big smile on their face thru thier miror, after they had forced us of the road. Quebec drivers hate when they see cyckist on the road and they are so dumb they'll try to run you off the road. Quebec reader, I am from Montreal, Quebec and over 30 years of cycling I can tell you stories that will get your hair to go straight up.

I fully agree with what you say about "Quebec Truckers", and I will add that, in my humble opinion, the "Ontario Truckers" are only an inch better. The rest of Canada, and especially the Atlantic Provinces, conditions are excellent for cycling. That is my experience anyway, and I know that paved shoulders has a lot to do with it.........byfred

I contacted Reservation Gaspesie/St. Laurent and Tammy Lea Bourgaize helped me and has helped others with a tour of the Gaspe. There are four of us on the tour and the tour is 10 days, the longest day is 124 miles The tour begins on the July 23rd and ending on August 1. Its an inn to inn trip carrying our own gear. If you want a detailed itinerary, let me know.
