Riding a TTbike fulltime.

I bought a NOS Wheeler TT Frame and built a cross town sprint bike with flat bars!! :eek: I was inspired by the Scott Sub 20.

Hahaha so does this mean you hold your wires when you go into aero position?

What you suggest will work, but the handling may not be ideal with using a TT frame for general road riding. A properly designed TT frame, like the P2SL, has a shallower head angle and a longer front-center measurement. These features make the frame more stable with the increased frontal weight distribution that is inherent in the aero position. The TT bike will track better when ridden straight, but will have more sluggish steering than a true road frame. Indeed, the opposite is true when a standard road frame is set up with forward TT geometry--the steering feels a bit squirrely and unstable when on aero bars. Also the TT frames are generally heavier than their road-specific brethren. Weight is less of an issue for flat and rolling TTs, but becomes a bit more of an issue for climbing on the road. No one bike will be ideal for road and TT and any attempts to use one bike for both purposes will involve some compromises.

None of the 5 clubs, total of 1400 members, I ride with allow riding in the aero position when in a pace line.

The bikes you mentioned above are pretty much full-on steep angles, and the stem height would be really low to accomodate the Aero pads, seeing how the bike is meant to be ridden in aero position most of the time.

I ride a Giant TCR Aero 2 which is marketed as a TT/Tri bike, but it is basically more of a road geometry frame (75 deg) with clip on aero bars. I've still got my regular road bike sti-levers instead of those bar-end levers. Its got some nice aero tubes but they aren't as exaggerated as those on the cervelo's,trek equinox or kuota kalibur. But its a real bargain deal.

I'm not sure if you can do a multisport set up on those bikes you mentioned. Most of the time i see riders with road bikes trying to add clip on aero bars, rather than TT bikes being converted to roaduse. But i don't see how some minor fitting adjustment can't get what you're looking for.

But if you can get the adjustments right, those aero bars are really nice to have as an added option.

I just built a cervelo P2K as a road bike- works great as i also ride in a very forward position even when road riding. It is built up to 8kg so climes okay too and is very aero. I did need to raise the bars a bit though, but still running 190mm of drop. Handling is fine, actually better and more balanced than a road bike with the seat set up forward (too much weight on the front)

I would say just do it. Mind you the soloist would be a good option to workthe other way- a road bike you can tt on.

No problem with riding a TT bike with my clubs, you just have move from the aero position to the standard bar position when you get into a pace line. Don't know the answere to your question but there are bikes that you can't tell if they are TT with road bars or traditional road bikes, that are used in road races.

I dont think you understand I will not be using aero TT bars. NORMAL HANDLEBARS :p . I do a lot of racing you dont need to tell me aerobars are not legal in races 😉 . I will say it again, I want to buy a TT bike and swap the bars to normal ROAD bars. Is this legal or do you need a road bike geometry to be able to compete?

Check that the frame is UCI legal for road racing. The rules are slightly different, so a UCI legal tt bike may not be UCI road legal.

The cervelo P2K frame I have built up as a road bike is UCI legal for all events so it is road raceable.

The only other regulation that might get you is the seat position. The nose of the saddle cannot go forward of the BB.

But you need a very agressive position to do that anyway, too agressive for RR.
