OK, OK I know I am a road cyclist but I am thinking about
taking a trip to the dark side and doing a track taster at
the National Cycling Centre. There is a small discount for
unemployed people and I have the time at the moment. Anyone
care to comment on these sessions ? are they well organised
? are the coaches any good ? are nay particular days better
than others ? anyone care to join me ?

If it's the manchester ones, the tasters are good fun. Not
much coaching - basically turn up and ride. If you want
actual training I think you want other sessions.cheers, clive

Anyone care to comment on these sessions ? are they well
organised ? are the coaches any good ? are nay particular

leisure at the moment so it would have to be weekend. Would
need a fair warning to get a pass out.I have car (v small) so could offer lift from West Yorkshire
or I'd quite fancy going down to dewsbury and get train (if
it takes bikes) as it would be a gas turning up at the
velodrome on a fixie.--

Would need a fair warning to get a pass out.I've done a couple of the track taster sessions at
Manchester. They are great fun. For those who don't have a
track bike - there's loads at the velodrome and
- as all have Look clipless pedals, you can also hire shoes
when there too.How much you get out of a session is up to you. The level of
coaching varies. One I went to had *excellent* coaching, and
I learned a lot. Another it was effectively just show up and
ride with the "coach" providing no coaching at all
- he just stood and watched us cycle round. But track is great fun - I recommend it.
Cheers, helen s

Maybe we should cycle over, do an hour on the track and
cycle home. 50 mile hilly warm up should be OK ! I'll check
out weekend sessions, and trains. I could board at Morley
or even ride to Dewsbury. I would normally drive so I am
sure we can sort something out. -

Those HPVs look awesome, please let us know when the next
event is especially if its in ManchesterWe couldn't get Manchester this year; the next nearest event
thereto would be Darley Moor (near Ashbourne, Derbys) on
July 4th and then the Preston/Lancaster double-header on
August 7th/8th. The only other velodrome event this year is
Reading, in September. Full calendar is at

before going onto the track. What you should /not/ do is set
wheel to boards with the former shod with brand spanking-new
tyres, unless you've attacked them with, for example,
sandpaper to remove the release agent (the coach at Newport
was asking everyone this last weekend). Failure to do so may
result in bruised ribs, poisoned elbows and similar blean.--

Pennines, spend an hour on the track then ride home
afterwards. -
