it for several thousand dollars. But it would take a genius to design and
make a recumbent and be able to sell it for just a few hundred dollars. Rich

part about the high profit and pay involved in the whole bike industry. I
thought the smokescreen of a couple of the major bent companies going out of
business, and the extremely high bike store failure rate nationally would throw
you off the track of our obscene bike industry profit rates!

I would like to offer you a high paying job in the industry, before any
other companies get to you! With your combination of intellect, design
abilities, manufacturing abilities, and especially....people skills, I have no
doubt that you will rule the industry in short order.

Why not try making a cheap bike for a change. Then maybe your profits would
go up. I don't think Sun Bicycles is going to go out of business anytime
soon as long as they continue to make recumbents that cost hundreds instead

how to make expensive bikes all go out of business. Frankly, you do not
deserve any business.

A recumbent is a very simple contraption and ought not to cost as much as
they do. $3000. for a recumbent is a crime against all sensibility. If you
can't make a recumbent for a few hundred, then get out of the way and leave
some room for someone smarter than you who can. As long as recumbents
continue to cost thousands of dollars instead of hundreds, it will always be
a poor industry for scavengers like you to take advantage of.

I have no interest in making anything - period! Lucky for you that I don't

You don't seriously think someone like Rich Pinto ever found anything the

elementary things about recumbents and there is never a shortage of old
hands who are more than willing to help them out. It has always been that
way and it continues to be that way to this day.

The only thing that has changed is we are no longer getting all those

came along. I have taken care of that and as a result this forum is better

I don't know about you Ed, but I was raised to believe that unless you
actually design, develop, build and sell a better mousetrap, you really
can't criticize the guy who actually did it. If you don't like Rich's

Rich, you and I met briefly three years ago heading into the finish at
the Seagull Century in Salisbury, MD. I was riding my 1999 Stratus
and you were on your AeroCycle. At the end of the ride you introduced
my to John Schlitter riding an Orange Strada before your company
started producing bikes for the market. Last week I completed my
second Seagull on my Red Strada with the M5 seat. This bike is a
tremendous value and awesome machine! My roadie friends and I finished
the ride with an average speed of 18.5 mph, our fastest time to date.

I wonder where this idea ever came from that newsgroups are for the

I am into nothing but opinion. So are most of the rest of you, but you are

If you want some solid information, you should be reading RCN, the only
publication in the recumbent world that knows it's ass from a hole in the

Don't you mean you respond with pity, not piety? I am the only saint here
and so only I can claim piety.

Rich Pinto and his likes are never saying much that the rest of us can
benefit from. Instead, they make very expensive bikes (because they do not
have the brains to know how to make cheap bikes) and then they expect us
saps and suckers to line up to buy them, all the while thanking them for
their efforts on our behalf even while they are robbing us of our hard
earned money. Thanks, but no thanks! I will take a pass on these characters
and if you had the brains you were born with you would too.

What Rich Pinto and others like him need are not fawning customers, but
destructive criticism. You do not think they would ever sit up and take
notice otherwise, do you? Rich Pinto only wants to get, well ... rich! His
first name says it all.

Frankly, I am fed up with types like Rich Pinto who only know how to make
very expensive bikes. The world badly needs an inexpensive recumbent bike.
If Rich Pinto and his ilk ever expect my respect and admiration, let them
earn it by making an inexpensive recumbent. Any fool can make a recumbent
bike for $3000.
