If we're going to organise a wreath for Rhyl CC we need to do so quickly.
What I propose to do is to set up a paypal account which I will publicise
here and only here, later today. People who want to can then donate into
that account. When we know a date for the funeral of Thomas Harland (the
14 year old) I will close the account to further donations and use
what's been collected
(i) to buy a wreath which will have on the card "From the members of the
Usenet group 'uk.rec.cycling' and get it delivered to the appropriate
undertaker
(ii) any residue, to be paid either
(a) to a charity nominated by Rhyl CC, or, if we can't get in touch with
them (which under the circumstances would not be surprising)
(b) to the Welsh national cycling body for youth training.
Afterwards I will post here and only here an accounting of what I have
done with all the monies donated.
This is not really for discussion because there isn't time to discuss.
However if someone can think of a reason why this is a really bad idea
please let me know by mail at once.
I don't want to leave the account open for any length of time because,
given the nature of things on the Internet snowballing, I might find
myself with a very large fund which would be a significant
responsibility to administer.
