Fuji makes a beautiful road bike out of 853, the Roubaix Pro. The
Performance Bike Shop near me still has a couple of the '03 models,
which I have seen them selling for as low as $859. This has a 105
drivetrain. The '04 model sells there for about $1399 or so, less than
MSRP of $1599, and goes on sale sometimes. I actually have a Roubaix,
which is Aluminum, and I am very happy with it. This is the link:

I have an '03 Lemond Maillot Jaune (Lemond's top end steel bike) that is
853. You won't find any info (useful anyway) as companies will never
divulge trade secrets and whatnot. Any tubing from Reynolds, Dedacciai,
Columbus, Easton can be considered comparable and a good choice for your
bike. I'd be more concerned with who is making your bike and where it
is made than by which brand of tubing it uses. For your reference my
Lemond is fantastic. Good on ya for choosing steel!

The only two that I presently am aware of are some older LeMond and
Schwinn bicycles, but I no longer know what models that they are so if
anyone knows what models I am referring to or any other bicycles;
please forward that information ASAP as I would like to acquire a
bicycle soon as I have the bug again after several years of walking.

Any sites or other newsgroups with bicycles available would be
appreciated.

I also have an '03 LeMond Maillot Jaune, albeit heavily customized with
pieces and parts. I will second Jon's comment about the frame though.
Other good steel frames can be had by high end stuff like Independent
Fabrication or Waterford, and on the more reasonable end in companies
like Fuji.

fuji does a great job with reynolds tubes for moderate price. I still
use a MTB fuji "pro" frame for "urban assault" that has withstood many
hard miles, and several mid-tube dents due to spectacular crashes in
scree fields, with no ill effect.
