Pro is a race report of the 2004 US Pro championships in Philly. While it
has a different flavor than World Cycling Video films it more or less is the
same sort of thing.
Jamie is coming right along on his film-making but if I was going to give
him any advice it would be to lighten up a little. This is a SERIOUS race
report from start to finish. Another thing might be for someone that isn't
nearly so basso profundo to narate. Simmons definitely has a good naration
voice but its more the sort that you'd expect behind a PBS film on mating
otters. Jamie's voice is better suited to this sort of thing in my opinion.
Eric Saunders and Chris Horner come right off the screen as real people so
it is good that there is a good deal of them in the movie. Bobby Julich and
Freddy Rodriguez are obvious PRO's with all capitals.
I would hope that Jamie would make another film sort of on the lines of "On
Any Sunday". He could film raod racing guys, MTB races, Cross racing with
LOTS of mud or snow (bet Adam could give him some really good advice on
that) and of course the fun riding is really where bike riding is at. The
group ride up Mt. Diablo with some old guy trying to keep up with the young
chicks at the top. Drinking coffee at the end of the ride or in the middle
of it. Doing a cross ride. You know my cross bikes all have triples because
I don't race them. I RIDE them. Poking up over the hills and down to the
seashore, having to OOF! over that rise and seeing the plaque that states
that "Captain Gaspar de Portola camped, October 31, 1769, by the creek at
the south side of this valley, and to that camp scouting parties brought
news of a body of water to the east. On November 4 the expedition advanced.
Turning inland here, they climbed to the summit of Sweeney Ridge and beheld
for the first time the bay of San Francisco."
230 years later there we are seeing the bay through the break in the hills.
Buy "Pro" and maybe Jamie'll be able to make another one less specialized.
