Restaurants in Minneapolis

Nicollet Ave, just south of 13th street and going down to about 28th street is
packed full of some of the best food, little vietnamese, thai, malaysian,
mexican, taiwanese and greek places. Yummy at 24th and Nicollet does a good
dim sum every day. I hit it at least once a month for lunch since it's just a
few blocks from where I work.

I also highly recommend Quang's at 27th and Nicollet for Vietnamese. It is
most excellent and they have a really wide variety of dishes.

This is what I can think of off the top of my head without knowing exactly
where they will be staying or working.

If I think of more, and I am sure I will, I will post.

I loved Minneapolis! We walked all around. I swear I got more exercise and
stuff walking all around the Mall than I ever have in my life! Lots of nice
restaurants there; it's hard to say where to go. There were Thai places;
there were Italian places; there were Irish pubs. My only suggestion is
walk down Hennepin Avenue and go where your feet take you.

Sadly, good ethnic restaurants _in_ downtown Minneapolis are not
plentiful. The choices get much better as one moves away from
downtown (as Heather pointed out).

One good choice on the fringe of downtown would be Kramarczuk's,
which is a little northest of downtown, across the Hennepin Avenue
Bridge (bus or taxi will get them there). Our own Barb Schaller has
mentioned this place many times, and I can vouch for the eastern
European sausages and side dishes. Hmm ... time to go there again!

Another "fringe" choice would be Safari, which is on Nicollet
Avenue, just south of downtown (a few blocks past the Hyatt). It's a
northern-African restaurant that serves excellent food with a
personable host. There might still be a review of the place on the
r.f.c. archives on Google.

Other choices:

- Cafe Brenda, a mostly-vegetarian restaurant in the Warehouse
District. Brenda Langton is one of the more inventive chefs in The
Cities. The menu changes frequently. In my many visits there, I have
_never_ been disappointed.

- Pizza Nea, serving true Neopolitan pizza, with the thin crust and
the buffalo mozzarella and the San Marzano tomatoes, all cooked in a
wood-fired oven.

- Restaurants I haven't yet been to but which might interest your
friends include:
- Cafe Havana or Victor's 1959 (Cuban) (Warehouse District);
- Solera (tapas) (downtown);
- Cosmos ("new American" cooking, nice bar, a very stylish room)
(downtown);
- Vincent (French, but one of the best chefs in town) (downtown).

None of these restaurants are hugely expensive, though dinner at
Cosmos and Vincent probably will bang out of shape most corporate
_per diems_.

You'll have to give us a report of what they tried and what they
liked!

Caspian Bistro near the U of MN on University where Washington Ave meets
it. Steve D will correct me if I'm wrong.

Lots of Asian restaurants on Nicollet from about Franklin (20th) to Lake
Street (30th). Yummy! comes to mind - I wrote about it in
February/March.

Actually, have them hook up with Steve! He's the best food guide ever
for the Twin Cities. (Dude! I know we need to make a plan but I'm up
to my eyeballs in Easter eggs. Festival of Nations starts Thursday and
I gotta get ready.)

They should hit a supermarket and find some Gedney State Fair Cherry Jam
to bring home. . . .

Maria's on 11th and EAST Franklin (East of Nicollet) is great for
breakfast - a jumping joint - I was there this past weekend. Not open
for dinner, I think.

How long are they going to be here, Ranee? See above mentioned Festival
- downtown St. Paul - www.festivalofnations.com A fun time.

I'm sorry I'm not available to be a tour guide!! I would have loved it.

I don't know! I forwarded the recommendations to them, and then I
was on my way out of town, just got back. So, I haven't touched bases
with them.

BTW, did you get my email? I emailed everyone who posted to thank
them, and at least two bounced back.
