cause that particular problem.Quoted message said:

Priscilla, I didn't see this response of yours ..... but
from a purely tongue in cheek point of view, my "concern"
regarding the flight deck crew had more to do with the way
that they rush forward the moment the wheels are firmly on
the deck and strap the whirly-beastie down so it doesn't go
over the side into the oggin when the ship rolls to one side
or the other .... they do this while the rotor is still
spinning, hence my comment ...Quoted message said:

Oh I believe a ship's deck might, but if I were in that whirly-
beastie coming down upside-down, I think I'd be inclined to
say "Stuff the deck, I have bigger concerns" ....--

I would imagine that sort of state would make it much easier

else, when you can do it, you do things without consciously
knowing you've done them (like driving a car for an hour and
suddenly realising you're where you want to be without

Well not unless you're Mike Smith that is (now that IS a
groan:-)Lost on me - I haven't the foggiest idea what that
refers to ..Mike Smith was a radio DJ who decided to learn how to fly
heli's (probably because another DJ pal of his had done the
same thing). After he got his ticket, he took his girlfriend
for a "spin", but ended up icing his carbs on descent and
the heli began dropping faster than his intended speed. In
time honoured fashion, instead of pulling carb heat, and
reducing pitch, to regain a few engine/rotor rpm, he pulled
MORE pitch in an effort to stop the drop, but that resulted
in a massive decay in rotor speed and an even "massiver"
increase in the drop speed. Basically he stopped the fan.The heli hit the deck and both him and his girlfriend were
pretty badly smacked up, but thankfully, not killed.
(Lucky lucky)He took this as a REAL lesson and eventually went on to
become an instructor, and it's my guess his favourite "demo"
manoeuvre is "recover from a low rotor speed situation" and
I bet he makes his students aware of just how easily it is
to get into that situation in the first place.Beav
