REPOST: Knife storage - under counter?

This is very odd. I'm using google groups (not familiar with it just

children. (I have a brand-new nephew!)

Has anyone used one of the above storage systems? Other suggestions?

Hi Josh! Long time no post.

The repost is not your fault. Someone (apparently posting from
mindspring.com) cancelled your original post by mistake and has now
reposted it.

Regardless, google.groups, while a very useful archive, is a miserable
newsreader, like all Web-based ones. But then you know this. Get a Mac
and use MacSOUP instead. But then you know this, too.

So... can anyone cancel any post? That seems sort of
counterproductive. And dammit I cancelled both the repost and my "what
happened" reply, and yet you and Steve still saw it and answered. What
craziness is this.

Fwiw, I am running on a Mac. (But you probably guessed that.) An
iBook. Mmm, love the Mac. We just set up new internet service here,
Matt says it's virtually unlimited (our last ISP capped usenet
bandwidth at 1 gig, I think). I'll have to poke around and see if I
can't get trn or something.

Yes. However, rogue cancels are more than just frowned upon and can
very easily lead to a loss of one's account. Besides, a lot of
newsservers don't honour cancels nowadays, rogue or legitimate.

Get MacSOUP instead - there is a MacOS X version now. The current one

I think the pull down one would be an extra step, and only for the
people who have to have "the spartan" look in the kitchen.
I have just gotten a not-cruddy magnet for a pittance at IKEA and it is

Probably just needs a few more months to eventually finish, but it'll
be a little trickier to get that kind of time off these days.

Yes, we got married in October. 😄 Honeymooned in San Francisco for a
week and a half. We got thrown out of our first hotel - they called
after a few days and said they'd been bought out, the new management
was closing the hotel, and if we needed a few numbers to try and
arrange new lodgings, they might be able to help out. Ha! The rest of
the honeymoon was great - ate some fabulous meals, the weather was
great, saw lots of neat stuff.

What about you? You married yet?

I went to IKEA for the first time in my life last weekend. I was not
impressed. 🙁 I especially hated the way they herd you around such
that you have to freaking walk through every department when you just
want to leave! Then again, I had a fever and was feeling kind of
horrible, so I might have just been full of intolerance that day.

IKEA has connecting doors so you don't have to go around every department.

slrn is one of the better newsreaders, indeed. However, it looks and
feels positively repulsive after using MacSOUP. Everything is repulsive
once one gets used to MacSOUP!

Oh, no. Your feeling about it has nothing to do with a fever. There
ARE shortcuts to get out, but you have to be alert and looking for
them. Congrats to you and Matt, BTW! Finally! Did you change your

I saw the signs that said, "Shortcut to [another department]" every so
often, I would take them, but just end up in another part of the store!
What was bad was the sort of slow shuffle of people, like one of those
lazy river rides at the water park, you just had to merge, shuffle, and
diverge to another department as you wanted.

Yeah, well, it was a long time coming. We just wink and say, "We had
to make sure..." Matt always points out that my parents didn't want me

It's... iffy. In bright light, everything is fine. In dim light, I
see odd shadows that come and go. It's hard (borderline dangerous) for
me to drive at night on roads w/o streetlights. I can still read
pretty well with the bad eye, but it's mostly seeing a few letters and

I don't know if you caught my other post, but I live in Minnesota now!
I just bought a jar of your cherry preserves a few days ago. Yummy! I
have been sort of foregoing the whole toast concept and just eating it
straight, a spoonful here and there.

Matt's sister has a good foodie friend in the area who gave us a whole
list of recommendations... Of the nicer restaurants, we ate at
Piperade (a Basque restaurant, I belive?) and The Boulevard. He also

seems to taste better right when it comes off of the heat. We also

but the service was SO BAD, it kind of ruined the experience.

I believe at the one in Emeryville, CA they forced you to walk through
the entire store for the first several months after they opened,
then they opened up the connecting passageways after that.

LOL! If it really was the Empress of China, it's on the 3rd floor of a
3 story building. Flatlanders tend to be confused because our "hills"
make small buildings seem taller.
