Reporting being terrorised on the pushie

Well I have read about alot of riders in here feeling that they were
intimidated by drivers and I have to say that I know how they feel now. I
was out riding and this @#@%idiot came around a corner sideways at me,
fishtailed past me, did a 180degrees behind me, sat in a gravel turnoff and
gunned the motor several times before coming back at me a second
time!!!!!!!! He went past me once agaiin sideways and out of control. All
that remained of the encounter was one cyclist in the grass/gravel beside
the road bawling her eyes out (yep that was me, 49yr old and never before
have I felt so threatened for my well being in all my life!)I was absolutely
terrified, on a steep hill, pedalling no where fast, no houses/people in
sight and thinking that this @^@$#idiot was going to come back at me again.
I did get his number, I did get a look at him and also a good description of
the car. I went to the Police, did a statement and guess what? This idiot is
known to the police and because in Qld we have a "hoon law" well guess what?
By today he would be carless. ie, his car has been taken off him.
I encourage all cyclists to report these incidents and maybe these idiot
drivers might just think twice. Somewhere deep inside me I feel sorry for
the blardy idiot but I supposed feeling sorry for someone beats being killed
or wounded by them!
Anyway I just thought that I would share that.

Sorry to hear about your experience, but the result is great! Good on
you for having teh courage and strength to do something about it.

Don't feel sorry for him. You might well have saved *his* life, as
well as your own.

Damn good to know you're ok Kathy, being singled out by a tool with poor impulse control is never a pleasant experience. Let us know how you get on with the police, down here in Vic they've recently introduced a Hoon Law as well.

Sounds like this hoon sure deserves to have his car confiscated.

We have a fair number of hoons here; I've been putting up with them for
years,
but none have tried to really frighten me. A few bus drivers and
truckies have
sure come close to killing me, but I would never have got anywhere
reporting them.

Tnankfully I can do 90% of the cycling I want to do on cycle paths and
in cycle lanes and hoons don't
give me as much trouble as they used to.

I always thought that civilization in Australia inversely varies in
proportion to the distance from Melbourne,
and by the time you get to Qld or NT, civilization including respect for
cyclists has become
extremely thinned down, and you're deep red-neck territory, where every
second person has major things wrong with them :-0.

For some reason I don't fancy cycling around northern bits of Oz.

I did do a motorcycle trip to Cairns in 1972, and got into a blue with
Townsville Rebels.
But the two who attacked me just because I rode a pooncy BMW and because
I had ACT plates
ended up in the gutter after I dealt with them. Within an hour I was 80
miles further north,
and If they'd wanted to chase me, they'd have had to try hard.
If I'd been on a push bike things mighta been worse....
And had I been a female on a push bike, maybe even worse still...

But if I rode to Cairns now on a pushie, maybe I'd get a dirt bike,
and try to to the whole lot off roads.

Off the cuff? If my daughter ever became involved with such losers,
she was already well out of control. I would hope that she would
never get anywhere near that point, or I have failed miserably at my
job.

Me too. Can't imagine how thousands of licences weren't cancelled in those
days. Drunk driving too. I think cycling kept me more realistic than people
I knew.

It's certainly a challenge far stronger than any theory or arbitrary bunch of
rules. There's a bucket of forming emotional positions (changing by the month),
a whole range of motivations, influences and pressures, and changes in
ability to understand. AND tensions and love and very original ways of seeing
what everyone else think is obvious. [And that's only the parents!!!!].

We weren't talking about the hoon, we were talking about someone
who was stupid enough to get in a car with him. I do my best, but
I can't stop my kids being stupid. I can't reasonably expect them
to behave better than I did, although I can hope. I certainly don't
think we should euthenase people just because they are stupid.
