  1. The rim on the rear wheel of my Trek 520 exploded when I pumped up the wheel before going out for a ride recently 😕.

I want to replace the rim but not the hub if that is possible.
The rim that exploded was a bontrager maverick.
    What rim would people reccomend?

    Cheers.

  2. That can happen when there is a lot of wear on the rim. You are lucky it didn't happen when you were on the way down a hill and braking..... It shouldn't be a problem to keep using the hub (though you may want to clean and repack it or have it cleaned and repacked if it's never been serviced). There's a ton of choices out there for rims and spokes, so I really don't have any specific suggestions other than check around your LBS scene and find out who has a good reputation for wheel building. They should be able to recommend a good rim for the way you use the bike.

  3. Check out the Sun CR18 rim.

  4. Mavic Open Pro. Never had a problem with it, even after tons of abuse, but a rim is also as good as the person who builds the wheel.

  5. I'd b replacing it with a velocity dyad. It is about the best touring rim on the market. The rim of choice for Peter White who gives a lifetime guarantee with the wheels he builds.

    cheers
    Geoff

Velocity Dyad, but you will need to respoke with shorter spokes.
Or if you want to save some $$, Alex DM-18 which is nearly same ERD as bontrager maverick.
We run Dyads on our touring tandem with great results.
