I own a bikeE and get a bad case of recumbutt every time I
ride. Does this numbness occur on any other recumbents? Or
is it caused by the sitting angle of the bikeE?

I own a bikeE and get a bad case of recumbutt every time I
ride. Does this numbness occur on any other recumbents? Or
is it caused by the sitting angle of the bikeE?John: I'm piloting an EZ-1 SC (heavy) and used to have the
same problem. The bikes are similar. All I can say is that
over the last year, I've gone from about 10 miles to about
20 before I have to stop, stand and maybe walke around a bit
before the numbness dissipates.Hang in there and keep riding.

Yes, recumbent butt happens on other bents.I think the seat angle has a lot to do with it.
Two brands - Vision & Ryan - have historically been
virtually free of recumbent butt problems. Both,
unfortunately, are out of business. Longbikes makes an
updated version of the Ryan called the Slipstream and I have
never heard of RB problems with it. I'm sure there are
others brands where RB isn't much of a problemBike E's, Cobra seated Tour Easys, and their variants seem
to be the worst offenders.Your best bet is to stop and take a minute or so to
walk it off.skip

I used to get it when I first started riding my trikes. The
more I rode it though, the longer it took to come, and now
finally, there's only a very mild hint of it after about
2.5 to 3 hours continuous riding. I think it's mainly
because you're putting weight on part of your butt that
isn't used to
it. Another thing that I did that gave me a BIG improvement
in recumbent butt relief was lean the seat back more so
that I take most of the load/pedal pressure on my
back/lower back now, and far less weight actually rests
on my butt. The last thing you could try, as well, is
buy the high density foam camping mats that are
intended to go under sleeping bags, and cut a piece to
fit your seat. They're really inexpensive here - less
than $10 CDN. Experiment with size and position of the
foam and see if that helps too."John Robb" <[email hidden]> wrote in message

Not all butts react the same to all seats. My wife says I
have no butt. I have little or no problems with most
recumbent seats. The bikeE causes me problems at about 50
miles or so. I have done 75 on the bikeE. I'm not a good
judge of seats. I have done a double metric on an M5 with
one stop and was fine. Yesterday I did 83 on it and had no
Rbutt. Seat back angle must be the key for me. With the
exception of the bikeE I tend to max out my seat angle, so
much of my weight is on my back. I am commuting on a Catrike
Road and at first I had Rbutt at 10 miles I keep the seat
bottom as taught as possible and its fine. Yes some seats
are better than others HOWEVER, some are not for some people
and great for others. I have a friend that thinks the Cobra
is great. Its the only seat that I have rode that created
Rbutt inside 5 miles.Jude

I have a Tour Easy with a Cobra seat that was giving me a
bit of recumbutt. I ordered a RANS seat bottom pad from
Hostel Shoppe for $20, took the fabric seat pad cover off,
ripped off the old foam pad without bothering to be very
neat about it, put the RANS seat pad on without even gluing
it down, put the fabric seat pad cover back on, and it is
GREAT!!! No more recumbutt. The RANS seat pad is softer,
larger (looks like a tractor seat), and doesn't hamper my
pedalling action. The best $20 I have spent on the bike yet.Don
