Recumbents on a Velodrome

Ask your Velodrome Operator. My local Velodrome Had a recumbent day once. It was open to anyone. We
had one streamliner and the track operators were most inpressed with his near 45 mph lap.

Some Velodromes will not permit any 'bents. Wooden tracks are most particular. So keep that in mind.
High BB should not cause any problems on steeply banked tracks.

If you want to race, then Bent total length becomes a factor.

The one here in Frisco TX only allows track single speed bikes unfortunatly

There is a Velodrome in South Florida. Had HPV races there last year. Great fun. Did not see any
problems with bents riding Velodrome. Low racers would be great fun. I rode my Vision - no problem.
Took a little guts to ride on top. But once started did not want to stop.

Find a bent that fits your riding style and cycling goals.

Your lucky to live so close to Velodrome.

Here in the U.S., there's a variety of arrangements governing who rides what when on which
velodrome. I've ridden on a couple, but always during "open practice" times. My advice is to go to
the velodrome and ask.

I wouldn't say that bent riders are commonly allowed to ride on velodromes, but if you make friends
with the folks that run the facility they will probably let you get on. Remember that bents wouldn't
mix well with traditional track bikes, since they are fixed gear without brakes. Probably the best
approach would be to take whatever kind of beginner program they have on a regular track bike to
learn track etiquette and then see about getting your bent on.

Lowracers are very popular on the track, but I'm sure that a very aero high racer would do
well, too.

Hopefully I can get on the track. Sounds like a lot of fun, and much safer than the streets around here. I've read that they've had funding problems as of late, so maybe they'll be "motivated" to be cooperative!

I'd love to try that one although it just doesn't look like they ever will allow bents or any
standard bikes on the track

Talk to the guys in RBENT. I believe they might have had some success once.

Unless RBENT has been successful, you can probably forget about Frisco.

The 'bent event that I mentioned in my earlier post was at Alkek here in Houston. RBENT cam down
because I could get Alkek and AFAIK this was the first 'Bent Velodrome event in Texas.

As a general rule of thumb recumbents don't seem to mix well with other styles of cycling
competitions. That said, I have ridden my streamlined recumbents on 6 different velodromes, all as a
special HPV racing activity. One of my favorite ways to race. I love the mass start 1 hour
competitions the best. Usually run around a 35 mph average. Almost got a 40 recently at the Hellyer
track. Bike broke.
