Bouncing off another thread, is there a national road race for recumbents, on a par with say the tour of Britain? And just how many recumbents are there out there(I guess what i want to know is just how popular recumbents are!)
Would love to try one for size, but would feel a bit silly at first, what with them being so rare around these parts!

No there isn't any stage races for recumbents. However, there are races held throughout the year at various locations in England. See www.bhpc.org.uk for more details.
In total in the UK, I think the number of recumbent owners are measured in the hundreds. Maybe someone else has a figure ?
I personally own 3, but still ride uprights. They are not better, just different ; but are a lot of fun.Hope that helps.

funny, cos my father in law believes that they make more sense, as you are riding in the bike rather than on it!(He is a bike fanatic, has loads!) -
If I had to have just one bike, then It would be my Challenge Hurricane Sport. We get too much snow and ice here in winter, so I find my tourer or MTB better at this time of year.
I rode my Hurricane solidly for 2 weeks last year, to Holland and back. I nearly fell off my tourer going to work when I got back. Yes sometimes recumbents can be better and make more sense, but have fun on all my bikes. Andy -

Sorry, I realise that now after looking at your website.
It is a quasi-low racer recumbent, with disc brakes and rear suspension.
I see you live In Darlington. The British Human Power Club used have an event there. A race at Hetton on the Saturday, then off to Darlington for pizza and cheap beer (a lot cheaper than the prices up here). Then a 25m Time Trial on the road on the Sunday, quite a hilly route, out towards Barnard Castle.If you are interested I have a website at http/www.freewebs/andharthewheel/index.htm I have some links to recumbent sites, but it is a work in progress !
