I remember how chuffed I was when I broke the 20mph barrier for average round-trip speed to work.
And when I achieved the same over a five day period. Silly isn't it? Much of the speed difference
between us all is down to routes and weather.

Quite the opposite. As every cyclist knows, its bright yellow clothing and bright cycle lights that
render you invisible. You will probably surprise quite a few motorists as you pull up at the traffic
lights and as your lights fade you decloak right in front of them ;-)

Not if you but lamps with a standlight feature: these have a reserve charge which is built up when
you ride, and when you stop it cuts in and burns an LED to keep you visible. Lasts a few minutes. Of
course, these cost more than vanilla lights without the feature, but they do work quite nicely. I
use B&M lamps with standlights connected to a SON dynohub on both my principal bikes, and like the
combination very much. Not cheap, but IMHO good value despite that.

Yes, it would.

Also, I find dynamos much more fiddly to set up than LED lamps, and (perhaps I'm mistaken here, but)
you need to pedal a bit harder to generate the energy to light the lamp.

My rear dynamo lamp is an LED lamp - I presume you mean the cabling? That is a one-off. It took me
about an hour to do both lamps. It's taken me twice that to get one poxy lamp bracket fitted
before now ;-)

Yes, it's the equivalent of about ten feet climbed per mile, I understand. It reduces my average
speed by anything up to 0.1mph. I was halfway to work this morning before I realised I'd left my
lights on last night.

The SON is better than the Nexus if you are concerned about efficiency. Experience indicates that
such concerns largely evaporate on the first journey, for Nexus or SON!

Dynamos are the True Path to Enlightenment for road commuting :-)

Endorsed. Juliette has a new Cat Eye battery front light which is pretty good, but in general
battery lights are nothing like as bright as dynamo lights, and the batteries are always going dud
when it's least convenient. Dynamos _just_ _work_ [tm].
