I am switching from 9s to 10s and have bought all the drivetrain components to replace my existing except for the crankset with non-UD chainrings. I know that the UD chainrings are narrower and the the chaingring space between the small ring and the big ring is narrower too. My questions is: Can i machine the chainrings to make the teeth thinner (just like the UD rings) and machine the crank spider part that holds the small and big rings together to make it a little thinner thereby narrowing the gap between them - and make it work as a 10s?
PS. All components were replaced by 2004 Record while the chainset is a 2000 Record w/ 53-39 rings.

Just use the 9 speed crank. It works fine in an otherwise 10 speed system.

Its a never been used year2000 Record chainset w/ non-UD rings. But ur right, the UD rings would set me back about $21 (£71). I am just worried about the gap on the spider.
PS> Wifey does not know and I already have $850+ on the new parts invested.😄

Thanks, that at least answers my worry on the chainring gap between the big & small chainring. Did you change the chainrings on your 9s crank to UD rings?
