  1. Can anyone recommend good trail running shoes, or comment on ones I
have my eye on at the moment...Asics Gel Enduro?

I've been road running for approx 12 months now, and am very happy with
the Asics I use for that. This Winter I wan to take part in some
X-Country races but have no idea at all about what shoes to wear. I
reckon I can use regular shoes while the ground is still hard, but once
it starts getting wet and muddy I think I will have a problem with
    grip, and clogging soles.

Can't afford to spend too much, I've seen the Gel Enduro advertised for
    $65 (or the GBP equivalent!).

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I'd like to say theres a shoe that's good at that, but I haven't found
    one yet.

I can believe that. But, would I see an improvement over a regular
    pair of road Asics/anyother?

I never tried the asics trail shoes, so I don't know. But I doubt
    it...

My shoes don't do particularly well in mud or soft snow since they clog,
but you might want to take a look at Inov8 (MudRoc, MudClaw, and maybe
some other models) and Walsh. Look at the design and spacing of those
lugs. There's probably others out there also, but I don't have any
experience with them (or with these, but I do see Inov8 mentioned quite
a bit in trail forums in US). I think they're close to your price range
and should be convenient in UK.

You'll notice on MudRoc it says it was the winning shoe at WMRT 2003 (I
believe it was the women's race, but could've been the men's also).
Here's what conditions were like that day:
    http://home.att.net/~akrunning/WMRT2003/page0002.html

Based on tracks I saw this past winter of people that seemed to have
good traction, it looked like round protrusions (wider at base, narrower
toward ground) with lots of space between probably did a good job of
traction and shedding snow, and presumably mud.

I think some people use screw shoes for mud as well as snow.

Not sure if xc spikes would be what you're looking for or not, esp. if
you have any rock on your courses.

If your shoes are ok on uphill, you could glissade down 🙂

Hopefully something above is in your price range. Good luck.

  8. All more than $65 but maybe some guidance still:
    http://www.runnersworld.com/shoe_reviews/0,,s6-52-70-0-939,00.html

    One Ecco model included.

Diverging from the thread I am replying to:

Any comments on Ecco running shoes in general?
I tried RXP 1060 in an Ecco-shop. They feel very good but different.

I read that Rune Larsson ran USA coast to coast in Ecco RXP 1000.
(The 1060 beeing an updated model of 1000).

They (Ecco) also have an RXP 3040 model but that is not in stock
in any shop were I live.

I just bought Asics GT-2100 before trying Ecco. Good but not perfect.

Thanks, can you please fill us in on the details. What model(s) did you
    run in and
    how long/far.

in 2 pairs of 'Ecco RXP 1000' shoes.

If running that distance in a good shoes is less than
amazing then running in junk type of shoes is...?
