Recommended MTB Tyre for mud?

I use Onza Dan and Dave as a pair .. work really well, though the best pair
of tyres I have for mud are some 'no-name' cheaper than really cheap things
that have nicely spaced blocks A la Motocross tyres, and a hard tyre
compound that bites through the mud, finding grip as they do so .. I only
use them occasionally, when it's a really muddy track we're riding on, I
don't want to wear them out .. 😉

Velociraptors.

Any tyre set which has identical tread patterns for the front and rear
isn't going to be much good in mud, because you're asking the front and
rear tyres to do very different things. The front needs to resist
lateral slip and the rear has to drive you forward. In my opinion
Velociraptors are the best thing out there now, although I wish the
back was available in a wider size.

Tioga Factory XCs are an absolute revelation compared to the tyres I've had
before in the mud - no clogging of the tread at all. They also do some
special mud tyres, which are 1.85 rather than 1.95, and so sink through the
mud to the firm stuff quicker. Only a tenner an end or so too.

My experience of hybrid (Schwalbe Silentos) tyres on mud has been pretty
bad. Power oversteer on a mountain bike is a very strange thing.

I'm a fan of the Panaracer Trailrakers I've got on one of my bikes. They
were particularly impressive at this year's Mountain Mayhem, probably
the muddiest mountain bike event I have ever seen. The stockists at the
event who had any Trailrakers rapidly sold out...
