I want to upgrade the brake pads / holders on my new bike, which uses
Shimano dual pivot calipers. My goal is lots of stopping power. It appears
that KoolStop makes the pads of choice these days, but I'm not sure which
ones to get. After reviewing the KoolStop and Harris Cyclery websites, I'm
still not real clear about which ones to get.
- The Continentals are cheap and clunky looking, but apparently work well.
- The Dura Road Holders also look like a reasonable choice.
- The Supra 2 seems to be their top of the line pad, and my current
favorite.
- Finally, Sheldon Brown has said that he prefers the "BMX/Mountain" pad,
which I take to mean the MTB pad. I suspect that there may be clearance
issues with this pad.
Most of the KoolStop pads come with some form of the sperical washers for
fine tuning of toe-in. Some have the "pivot back adjuster" which I guess
does more or less the same thing. Which is preferable?
Since brakes don't wear down real fast, I don't see a significant advantage
to going the "holders" route. On that basis, the Supra 2 or MTB pad seem
the best choices.
The salmon or dual material looks like the best overall choice for material.
Well, anyway, this is where I'm at right now. The Supra 2 is the front
runner with the MTB right behind. Any advice?
