My wife's really happy with her 3/4 length Pearl Izzumi's. Not easy on
the wallet though.

You're looking at around AU$60+ for something half decent. Tney go up to
about double that for the high-end brands and qualities.

Major price influences include the number of separate lycra panels used to
make up the knicks (more panels = more comfort = more money). Thickness of the
lycra (thinner is more comfy, but won't last as long). Brand name.

Netti has copped a bit of critisism on their later designs, they have a lot
more seams in sensetive areas, and can cause irritation. Personally, they've
been ok with me, but I've been known to have been called a hard-[censored].

Keep in mind there are two types, male and female, they just change the panel
shapes to suit the general male/female backside shapes. They're transposable,
with a tradeoff in comfort (too tight in some areas, too loose in others).
I would recommend try out and purchase in a store at first to get your size,
and perhaps order online after that.

Generally speaking, you get what you pay for. A whole lot better than shorts
though, after a couple of hours in the saddle with daggy shorts, it hurts just
a bit. Your bum will thank you for the knicks.

I have the male MTB shorts from Netti. Basically a tight mesh nicks
joined at the waist to baggy nylon, conventionally constructed baggy shorts.

I find them okay, but I am really a loose shorts person, although I
would really like to find another affordable pair of cannondale touring
shorts.

Only problem with the above nettis is that they are so baggy, the unless
I watch it, I can end up with the bike seat up one on the pants legs {:-(.

Have you tried the N-Zo Dobies? Not the cheapest, but seriously
comfortable, well ventilated, and mine don't have a scratch after a
few ground hugging incidents.

I've done rides of up to about 5 hours in them with no worries.

My better half has been using Ground Effect's Jitterbugs for a while based on recommendation from some other women cyclists.
For last Christmas I bought her some Sugoi RS shorts from LeKnicks which get the vote as being the most comfortable and best made.

Both shops have a good no questions asked return policy so it just depends on your budget.
Calendula cream on the soft spots gets the vote also.

First, I was surprised at the number of males replying to this post
about chicks' knicks!

My first pair were Netti womens, I liked them okay. I upgraded at some
point to some really fancy Netti and Cannibal knicks with a 3D contoured
chamois and fancy materials and stuff, and I get more chafing out of
these, although the padding is a bit thicker and provides more
cushioning. My fave knicks for long rides are my "hot designs" ones,
they're thin-ish and they're from a club (I don't know if their website
is working or anything) but they've got a flat chamois that's small
enough to prevent chafing but thick enough to prevent bruising.

One more thing, most women seem to find that it hurts, no matter what
you do, until suddenly it doesn't anymore. For me this was when my rides
got out to 4 hours duration... but for some of my friends it was only 1
hr or so after 6 weeks-ish.

Hi there... I have tried numerous brands over the years, but have lately been impressed with UNO unoclothing.comindex.htmlOpen ↗

My two teenage daughters and myself bought some on the Great Vic Bike Ride last year after failing to get some knicks washed and dry one night. They were great value (from memory the 3 pairs were only around 100 dollars), are wearing well, they don't budge, no seams in the wrong spots, and they have a soft chamois that happily shapes to fit.

Perhaps just as importantly though, if she's not comfortable after the knicks, it might be a question of a new saddle...
