I had a good bike in College, it was a cross bike good to get around campus. That had been 12 years ago and now looking to buy another for execise and getting back in shape. I have been looking at Schwinn S-25 & Ranger, Mesa, Mongoose Pathfinder, Trek 820, etc ... mostly range from $200 to $300.
I am not sure how long this mt bug bite will last and I would appreciates any and all input and recommendations current user of these bike has regarding my purchase. Thanks!
For a little better than generic the trek 3900 runs less that $300, is fairly light and decent off the rack components for its price range. Go to mtbr.com and you can see the ratings of different mtn bikes as well as what people paid for them.
I love my Trek 820 - got it early May & have put 800 miles on it. Riding pavement mostly, installed slicks (26 x 1.25 Fatboy) and some used Ritchie SPD clipless pedals.
I am using this Kona Fire Mountain Bike, it's definitely a great bike for any starter. I've put at least 500 miles on it and I stress at least, and its held up great.
