Awhile back there was an emulator board for the Mac (I don't know which
one or the OS ). It was supposed to allow you to run pc based programs.
I don't know if they are still available or how good they are.

There are a few recipe software packages for the Mac. A great place
to look for software for Macs is http://www.versiontracker.com so I
suggest you check there.

Check out http://www.versiontracker.com or just visit your local Apple
computer store. I am a long-time Mac user, but I do not use recipe
software, but I know that Apple carries at least one package for recipe
management and you can find practically anything for the Mac on the
versiontracker web site.

Mastercook v. 3 runs fine under 9.0.4, but gets a bit cranky on later
versions of 9. I got mine from a "close out" bin for $5.00 a few years
ago. Try eBay.

It really is a pretty decent program.

For myself i find "simple text" to be sufficient for my recipe needs
but you might want to take a look at, if you are not already familiar
with,

editing recipes, one called recipe cleaner will turn down loaded recipes
into a uniform format, standardizing abbreviations and usage.

Try using "Mac Chef" or "recipe" in the search engine provided on the
site.

shopping lists and allows rapid searching of recipes. It imports mealmaster
& mastercook files and exports webpages & other formats. Gourmet uses
python, gtk and metakit.

PHPRecipeBook

PHPRecipeBook is a web based cookbook with the ability to create shopping
lists. The contents of the shopping list are pulled from the ingredients of
the recipes selected. Lists can be saved and later loaded.

As a disclaimer, I have not tried either of those. They both claim OSX
compatibility.

For Classic, the only recommendation, albeit a very reluctant one, is
MasterCook. The last version for Mac was 4 and it can perhaps still be
found on the Web or on Ebay. For MacOS X, MacGourmet looks good, not
least because it can import both MasterCook and MealMaster recipes. I
have never actually used it, though, so it is not a personal
recommendation.

OS9 MasterCook is simply the best.

OSX, most are vety big on looks, but nothing is quite as good for the
serious recipe collector/user. One I am looking at now is Connoisseur. I
tried it the other night and found that the MasterCook recipe import had
problems. I e-mailed the author and we had a nice exchange and I
e-mailed him a recipe exported from MasteCook. He looked into the
problem and e-miled me back that anothe user had also had a problem and
sent him a recipe. He had confirmed the problem and found a fix and
patched the program so the next release 1.1 should solve the problem.

I need a real serious program as I have many thousands of recipes and
most of the OSX solutions are awkward to work with when you have a large
number of reicpes. Connoisseur looks to be what I need, not so much
fluff and fancy screens as good usable functionalityl.

I run an older version of MasterCook in Classic, but would prefer to
run OSX. Personally, I think MacGourmet looks great, and seems to be
a bargain (if you dig through his blog, you'll find a discount code that
drops the price to $19.95). One of its features that I like is the
ability to post an HTML version of a cookbook. If you have space on
your server, what a great way to share recipes.

Thanks. A kind poster on this group, who's been here a long time, has
made me a copy and is going to mail it to me this week. My daughter is
very happy and is looking forward to it. She plans to buy an IBook when
she goes away to a four-year college (she currently lives at home and
attends a junior college), so she'll be a Mac user for some time.

Just curious Dan, what are you using for a newsreader? When I check
your header nothing shows up. I'm using Halime on OS-X and rather like
it but am always open to try others. I've been a Mac user for years now
and the only thing I don't like about them is there simply isn't a
newsreader which compares to Gravity for Windows. Halime is close, but
still not quite there (yet).
