In terms of hubs, SJSCycles sell a good range of fixed hubs. Prices vary
but you may end up having to buy a pair. Otherwise, try contacting your
local (?) track club to see what they recommend.

they will do a full wheel (MA3, Miche screw on hub) for about £60 IIRC.

The chainline on fixed hubs varies a bit (and is the worst thing about
Goldtec - they're nowhere near the "standard" 42mm). Have a good read
of Sheldon Brown's site and measure the chainline at the front before
buying.

i've emailed hubjub a couple of times when i was trying to build up a 'cheap
as possible' fix bike. The guy offered to sell me a good enough to get
started fixed rear hub that wasn't on his website, also gave me a price for
said hub built into the rim they have advertised on their site (or used to)
as a commuter wheel.

So send 'em a msg detailling what you've told us here, they may be able to
help out.

Buy the bits and build your own wheel, much more satisfying, and not
THAT difficult.

Mine (Campag Record - Mavic G40 - Stainless) is about 15 years old,
thrashed, bashed, abused, all weathers ........... never touched it,
still as true as the day I finished it.

When I built my fixer, I bought the cheapest Miche hubs (£40 for the
pair from SJS) and a pair of Nisi Mixer rims (£15 on eBay). I built them
at the Edinburgh Bicyle wheel building course.

Despite cheap hubs and cheap s/h rims they're still perfectly true after
a year and they don't get much tlc.

Thanks, everyone for your suggestions. This one looks like a winner,
I've been on the phone and on their website - a pair of MA3 rims on
Miche screw on hubs (well the rear is screw on obv) plus plain gauge
stainless spokes for 55 of your earth pounds. Thirty three for a rear
only. I have informed those who were scratching their heads wrt what
to get me for Christmas.

The suggestions about building my own have been filed in the bit of my
brain marked "one day".

And blimey, those goldtec hubs are nice. And expensive.
