Rear wheel

Campagnolo hubs come with a lockring, shimano cassettes come with a
lockring. It appears to be a philosophical difference where Campag are
right IMHO. Pete Biggs will be along shortly to confirm this.

Hi Jim, I think you're right there. Certainly all the Campag hubs I've
bought came with a lockring, whereas none of the Campag cassettes did.

Parker International have Campag steel lockrings and various Marchisio
lockrings, BUT I don't know if any of these (or Shimano lockrings) fit
Vuelta wheel hubs, which might need a special lockring for all I know.
Check with your wheel supplier or the manufacturer, Al.

Well it's all down to whether Al bought the Campag or Shimano version of
the Vuelta wheels, I suppose. It would not be good form for Vuelta to be
selling Campag compatible wheels without a lockring if you ask me.

They could be using the excuse that, in the case of Campag at least, 11t
top cogs need a different lockring from 12+t, and they don't know what
cassette you're going to use. But Campag aren't like that with their hubs
because they know most users like 12 or 13t.

I bought the Shimano version, so it looks as though everything's in
order. I'm sure that if the wheels needed a special type of ring,
there's be something about it in the paperwork.

I came across this post rather late in the day, but thought it worth
mentioning that my Vuelta Zerolites from Parker came with a lockring,
though (a) they're the Campag version & (b) I did buy a new 9sp. Mirage
block at the same time. No evidence of needing a Vuelta-specific
lockring, mind.
