Guess I'll have to take the opposing view. After all the post you're
talking about is for their front fork and the question was about rear
shocks.

The early Santa Cruz Tazmon's came with Risse rear shocks. I had two
Risse rear shocks, the Genesis and the Terminator.I rode them for 7
years and only had problems once, and that was very likely due to the
way the shock was mounted in the Tazmon rather than the shock itself
and
the way I installed it.

Their service was excellent when I sent the shock back for a rebuild
(including a new outer shell). I still have the Genesis on a shelf
somewhere. Never got around to putting it on eBay.

I'm surprised to see they've kept the same name and basic outer design
since '96.

As for shocks I've ridden, I used the Risse shocks for 7 years on the
Tazmon, and they were fine. I've used Fox Vanilla on a SuperLight and a

mountain tandem, but I've got a Cane Creek AD-5 on my Heckler that I
much prefer. It's just way more active and feels better, IMHO. YMMV.

I use a Progressive Suspension 5th Element rear shock on my Heckler, with
great results.
