rear mech problems

Yes, as if you're unscrewing it.

You might also have an adjuster at the front end of your bike (on down
tube or head tube) -- this will do exactly the same thing, except you can
twiddle as you ride!

It's a racinf bike with Compag Veloce. I also have another bike with
Centaur and they both look the same. Are they interchangeable? Could I use
a wheel from the "Veloce" bike on the Centaur bike (and vice versa)?

Interchangeable as long number of sprockets is the same and your chain is
long enough for the largest sprockets on both wheels. If any problems and
cassettes are different: setup the derailleur & chain for the largest of
the two.

Gear cable tension might need tweaking when switching wheels if one
cassette is slightly further outboard than the other -- shouldn't be in
theory but it's not a perfect world and tiny differences make a difference
to gear changing.

10-speed cassettes do fit on 9-speed hubs, in case the Centaur bike is
10-speed and Veloce is 9-speed.
