I'm trying to figure out why the video quality is so low, and the file size
is ungodly high. Have you tried using DivX, or cutting down the audio
bitrate to 32K while bumping up the video bitrate?

I'm trying to figure out why the video quality is so low, and the file size
is ungodly high. Have you tried using DivX, or cutting down the audio
bitrate to 32K while bumping up the video bitrate?

I am working on different combos as we speak. Part of the problem is
the helmet cam. My neck isn't as strong as PF's. I can't support a
full blown camera on my head.

I doubt it's the helmet cam... I'm thinking it's the postage-stamp video
SIZE, not the compression itself.

Does the raw footage look any better than the highres version? If so,
there's an encoding problem. I'd stay away from the windows video editor.
For encoding from MPEG to DivX, Gordian Knot is a must. www.doom9.org is
G'Knot's home. A bit complicated to learn, but more powerful than a stream
of steaming diarrhea evacuating a crowded elevator.

The raw footage is better. I'm using Adobe Premier Pro. I guess I
could try a bigger window at the same compression and see what happens.
I want to avoid proprietary codecs, because most people will not have
them installed or know where to find them.

I've also tried it on my Mac with Final Cut and had the same results.

I used to ride at Rutgers that doubled as a gay cruising zone. I once
rounded a blindside and had to bunnyhop over a guy's feet as he was

Funny you should say that. You don't want to be riding through the
tunnel in my video at night.

I've tried lowering the sound quality, but it does not save too much in
size. I still think it has a lot to do with the helmet cam. I know
that PF's videos seem to be half of size for the same amount of time.
(I.E. 30 MB for 6 minutes) where mine match the time for the size (60 MB
= 6 minutes). It really doesn't look all that bad on my computer,
though. It also has to do with the resolution of your desktop.

I wouldn't have imagined a park like that inside Philly. We have a great
park inside Portland, but all the singletrack is reseved for hikers, so
you're stuck with forest/fire roads. We have some other winter trail
options here, but elevations make it tough to determine if they're going to
be iced over on any given day.

Doing a video of it would be interesting, but I'd be paranoid of going down
and cracking up a video camera.

Most people would never suspect a park like that, or that big (the
largest urban park in the USA). You don't even know it's there until
you pull into the parking lot. Basically, the hills are really hills.
The park is a Valley caused by the Wissahickon and Schulkyll rivers. So
the hills are really just slightly above sea level. There are almost 16
miles worth of trails.

The park was going to be closed to bikers until a few people and IMBA
stepped in. By working with the other organizations that control the
park (there are three) we convinced them that MTBers are responsible
people and that the trail maintenance we perform would benefit everyone.

There are a few technical sections that I have spilled on, but that's
why I opt for the bullet camera instead of a minidv hooked to my head.

I wasn't put off by the quality, anyway. I didn't think viewers
comments were off base, but a little harsh. Although those cheesy

That is nice for you becuase it meets the needs you have as a rider.

Check out Aaron Chase and Jeff Lenowski riding "urban". That is the real
deal I think what you do is trail riding not urban.
