Reading to slough

I've done it a number of times. It's not particularly pleasant, but
not as bad as you might think. And it's no problem at all if you're
doing it in the wee small hours. There are much nicer alternatives,
but longer obviously. For example, you could go via Twyford, White
Waltham, Paley Street and Windsor.

I've done that route, its actually pretty direct on quiet B roads.
Also, note that you can shorten the journey from Windsor to Slough
quite considerably by going over the pedestrian bridge at Eton.

Motor traffic is taken in a loop round the west of Windsor on a busy
fast moving road. This is a left turn on a busy roundabout as you come
in to Windsor from the B road. Instead, go straight across toward the
centre of Windsor (if you are happy traversing busy rush hour
roundabouts), eventually turning left on a road that bypasses Windsor
High Street. You will soon see the bridge on your left which is for
peds only. Go over that and you are on Eton High Street where you
have a quiet and pleasant ride all the way to Slough, ending up in the
town centre.

I haven't been there for a while - others might advise if there are
alternative ways of getting thru' Windsor. Thames Path?

The Thames Path is on the north side of the river from Windsor to
Maidenhead and is marked as footpath only on the OS map.

A quick measure from station to station along the A4 gives about 29km
and a quieter route taking in Woodley Green, Whistley Green, Hurst,
Shurlock Row, Braywoodside, Oakley Green, Widsor and Eton comes out as
about 33km.

Having worked for a while in Sluff, I'd be inclined to agree. We have
had bags snatched in our own car park, and bags have been taken from car
seats whilst waiting at traffic lights.

Apparently, this makes Sluff smile...
