  1. Sorry Arthur I should have said it is 2days, sat 10th and sun 11th sept.
Two routes but if you have a route in mind that was both 30 and 50 miles,
with the sronger and fitter going on to do 50 and the others dropping off at
about 30 miles that would be fantastic. The racing lads will be ok because
they are bringing their wives, mums, dads etc, the idea of the weekend is
more of a social weekend so that those who normally don't ride will get on
their bikes instead of watching and passing bottles up. On reflection it
would be better to miss out on the hills, we are trying to encourage them
onto thier bikes not put them off, the hills come later when they are hooked
which is one of the reasons we picked the flatter side of York.

We have a lot of kids all of whom race, but have parents who support them
and this is their chance to watch mum and dad suffer because of all those
shouts of "come on lift it" when they have just blown and slid off the back
or missed the break. Most of our racing members are under 16 but this
summer we have had some of the dads racing as well along with some older
members, when they get to junior senior they tend to move on to more pure
racing club/teams and come back to us later in life so we don't have any
racing members in thier twenties. I hope this makes sense and gives you a
flavour of our mix of abilities.

    Thanks ............. Dave

Just to be clear here - one days riding or two? One route or two seperate

The main problem with mixing the rides is that there is a lot of nice easy

Well, the obvious easy ride for the kids etc is down the bike path towards Selby,
looking at the planets on the way. It's now been surfaced as well. Selby itself
is a bit of a dump though.

One option for a shorter + longer ride is this:

Down the lanes to Tadcaster via Appleton Roebuck and Bolton Percy. Tea stop in Tad
for those only wanting 30 miles. The short ride would then come back on the other
side of the A64 via Wighill and Bilbrough. Best way back across the A64 with little
ones would probably be to use the new Colton flyover, which won't be marked on a
    map unless it's very recent.

The lads wanting a longer ride can go from Tadcaster to Braham, over the A1 and
then round the triangle of roads round Thorner (some hills, nothing big) to
retrace to Tad and then back the other side of the A64 as the first group.
That's only about 40 miles, but there's plenty of option for adding in another
10 miles if wanted round by Thorner.

useful reading for the easy rides as well.

  4. Thanks Arthur, I will get an O/S map of the area ASAP and follow the routes
from your directions, can you recomend a decent tea stop in Tad? I know
there is a good one in Bolton Percy, but depending on which way round you do
your route it is to near either the start or end of the route. We will have
to try and fit in a reccy day before the club weekend just to try the route.

    Thanks again............ Dave

There's a cafe on the main street in Tad which looks ok. It's a bit near for
me to normally cycle to! There's also a nice bike shop in Tadcaster if people
want to have a look round.

I use that cafe quite a lot, it changed hands recently, its called
Tykes or something now. It's great, the staff don't seem to mind
cyclists clumping in. Its not a cheap greasy spoon cafe but has nice
cakes and is usually warm. There is a yard out the back where bikes can
be parked out of the way. Dave, the prop. of Cyclesense next door has
in the past offered to let us park our bikes in his yard while we are
in the cafe. (He even offered to supply coffee and muffins once when
the cafe was closed on winter sundays - top shop, pay them a visit).
