washing vegetables can only reduce a very small amount of pesticides.. as was already stated, most of them are lipophil and do not readily wash off with water (which is only logical.. they would have to spray every single time after a rainfall otherwise).
We have organic grown vegetable farms too. Right beside major roads where the fumes settle on them.

Where I live it is easy to find organic spinach. No problem.
We have organic grown vegetable farms too. Right beside major roads where the fumes settle on them.

True but all the asbestos from brake linings (or have they gotten rid of that?) and the solid particulate matter in the fumes (which will settle) can't be doing the organic veggies much good...

Particulates that pass through catalytic converters that fry everything at 1200°F or better? No asbestos any more in new cars, but older ones may still have some. There *are* solids that cars leave behind - tires. Did you ever wonder where all that black stuff is from the millions and millions of tires as they wear? There are bacteria that eat all that synthetic rubber and save the planet for the duckies and Bambi...

Those lead additives were *gases* when they came out of the exhaust pipes. Like carbon dioxide is a gas even though it has carbon in it. What did you think...? That bits of lead fell out of cars and littered the ground? I bet that was the thumping noises we all heard when cars drove by. Honkin great chunks of lead falling onto the ground, tumbling along the streets, making a fearful racket...
Tetraethyl lead created upper atmosphere pollution and contributed to smog, not dust on the rutabagas. It was exhausted as volatile lead bromide which is toxic to breathe. Learn some chemistry to go along with the biology you also don't know.

They aren't green either. The correct name is "greenhouse gases" because they act to retain heat like a greenhouse does for plants. Gases don't settle out in the atmosphere as they can in a closed container.

Pollution can consist of gases, particulates, liquids, etc. Different pollutants cause different things to happen. Italy is especially hard hit because of acid rain dissolving old marble statuary. Depending on what kind of acid it is, the stone will become differently colored. The same thing applies to concrete. To paint. To wood. To metals.
