Wasn't that the accident which occurred halfway between Glynneath and
Hirwaun on the A465? There are flowers set on the ARMCO in a bit of a
lay-by going up hill towards Hirwaun.

I thought so until I re-read the report, which mentioned
Merthyr. If it was the other one though, it was nowhere near
Merthyr and therefore nowhere near the Gurnos. And an even
sillier place to be walking on that road. Wonder what the
taxi driver was thinking of, dropping a passenger there?

I hindsight, I think it was on the A465, I remember the news item
vaguely and a day or so later I saw the flowers on the ARMCO.

He had limited money left, and asked the driver to take him as far as
his money would, which was where he was dropped off...near to where he
was killed.

This could well be the case because as I said earlier, there were
flowers placed on the ARMCO at the lay-by on the A465 which is a dual
carriage clearway. The lay-by might well have been where his cash ran
out - this being the case why didn't the driver take him on to the
Hirwaun roundabout where he would have to go to turn back towards
Neath/Swansea.

In that case the driver could turn around but the unfortunate walker
must have walked about 1 1/2 to 2 mile before being hit.

I remember returning from Brecon via Hirwaun to wards Neath and we had
to use the old road to Glynneath from Hirwaun (AKA the Glynneath bank as
the police had closed the A465 due to the accident and they were
presumably searching the area for clue or forensic evidence.
