The replacement tyre was a Schwalbe Marathon which comes up time and
time again in this newsgroup as a great tyre.

How does the Marathon compare with the Marathon Plus for punctures? Also,
how much difference does the weight make? (600g and 980g)

The difference the weight makes depends on your riding style. If you're
accellerating a lot, and a fast/sporty type of rider you'll prefer
something lighter. If cycling at a sedate pace then it's not an issue.

Good brand, kevlar belted, slick or almost slick. Scwalbe Marathon or
Marathon Plus gets regular good mentions on this group. I've had good
service out of Panaracer Stradius Elite Kevlars.

I would say I'm probably fairly sedate, but with a tendency to want to
accelerate quickly now and then (probably without having the energy - I
think like I have an internal combustion engine: "okay, accelerate up to
cruising speed here..."😉.

I think I'm going to try the Schwalbe Marathons. What about width? Seems
they're available in 1.5 and 1.75". Is one better than the other for the
trail side of things?
