    Teen dies after taking friend's ADHD medication
    Drug was not prescribed for her

    Mt. Morris Township — (10/09/03)--The danger of improperly using prescription
    drugs has been driven home with the death of a local teen. It's a drug used to
    treat Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder. Now it may be to blame for the
    death of a Mt. Morris Township woman.

    Police say the 19 year old died after taking her friend's prescription Adderall
    pills. ABC12's Katie Mitzner had more. Adderall is a common drug prescribed for
    children with ADHD.

    It also is a stimulant that speeds up the heart, and like many prescribed
    drugs, when it's not used correctly, it can be dangerous, even deadly. Police
    believe the 19-year-old woman from Mt. Morris Township took between two and
    five of her friend's Adderall pills, then suffered a seizure or heart attack.

    "This is unfortunately one of the drugs that is out there that kids are
    starting to experiment with. They're finding that more and more kids are trying
    this drug to use it as an upper of that sort," said Sgt. Scott McKenna.

    "Unfortunately, it's a fairly common thing that we see that people take
    medicines that aren't prescribed for them," said Dr. Brian McBeth.

    While sold in local pharmacies and safely prescribed to children, doctors warn
    Adderall and all prescription drugs for that matter can be fatal if not taken
    properly. That's why they take proper cautions any time they write out a
    prescription.

    "We take a very close look at the patient, at the medical problems that they
    have, the other medications that they're on," McBeth said.

    Precautionary measures that doctors use to prevent prescription drugs from
    becoming deadly. Police have not determined why the teen took the Adderall
    pills in the first place. They are awaiting a toxicology report to determine
    exactly how she died.

    There is no word yet if the teen's friend will face charges. It's is against
    the law to deliver prescription drugs without a license. As for the safety of
    kids taking Adderall pills, doctors say parents just need to make sure they use
    the drug as it's been prescribed.

    No. it shows how you lie. I said nothing other than tragic death. Where did you
    see any apparent effort of any kind?

    Differential diagnosis:

    Advanced dementia
    Pathologic lying

    Not only does Jan pick and choose lines but she also adds lines and
    attributes them to people when they did not say them. And of course
    when confronted about this she refuses to take responsibility for her
    behavior and instead accuses others of doing same.

    Jan has a habit of accusing others of exactly what she is guilty of.
    Jan should have gone into the movie business. She would have made a
    great projectionist.
