If you don't think that there is a HUGE probability that this guy was
on some type of performance enhancing drugs (or WHATEVER it is that
they take) you are verrry naive. Or you are in denial...
MOST of these athletes are on some sort of performance enhancing
materials. Track and field, bicycling, swimming...
When will people stop talking about rule changes, changes in training,
technology, strength conditioning, etc... as being the reason for these
FREAKISH performances in the pool. There is NO WAY a human being can
swim/perform that way naturally.
No way.
Then prove your point. Don't just make "no way" allegations and tell people
they are "naive" or "in denial." Back up your assertions. In other words,
step up to the plate and show your expertise, your facts, and your arguments
are more than just blowing smoke. You remind me of the guy on the cycling
newsgroup whose only "proof" was "I know I can't do it so nobody can!"
We're waiting, big guy.

It's just my opinion. I'm not an expert.
But here are some things to consider: Look at all of the doping going
on in all sports. Whether it's professional sports or amatuer. Look at
the fact that corporations like Speedo, Nike, etc... have their grubby
little mitts into athletics up to their elbows. Look at the money now
involved, even in swimming (I would guess that Thorpe is a millionaire,
wouldn't you? What about Phelps?). Swimmers can now make money. Look at
the pressure to smash world records to popularize many amatuer sports.
The list goes on...
I'm sorry, I just can't believe (can you HONESTLY blame me or anyone
for that matter) that many of these athletes aren't "artificial"??? In
this day in age??? In my heart, I would love to believe that Phelps,
Thorpe, etc... are clean. But I can't. I'm sorry. And you know what?
It's not my fault. Did you believe Barry Bonds? Did you believe Mark
McGuire or Sammy Sosa? Oh yeah, they're pros... How about Landis,
Armstrong, the cycling team that was leaping-out of their hotel windows
to avoid a raid, Ben Johnson, Marion Jones, Tim Montgomery, the Chinese
and East German (remember how the press slammed Shirley Babashoff when
she said so...) women, Michelle Smith, Inge de Bruijn (was Amy Van
Dyken just being a poor sport? I don't know...) the list is endless...
Can't prove anything. Sometimes you can, other times, well, get a
lawyer and pretty much say nothing.

nned_substances
(granted, not all of the banned substances on the list are perfomance
enhancing, in my opinion.)
I think that my inability to believe that these athletes (most, but not
all) aren't clean is completely rational given the long, long list of
cheats in sports. Can you blame me for feeling this way and having this
opinion? Can you blame ANYONE? I know it should be "innocent unless
proven guilty" but I just can buy it anymore. I assume the worst...
I know I can't do it, but many people can. More power to them. Some
(maybe many) however, are cheats. Just my opinion, okay?
And I'm not really a "big guy". About 5 foot nine...
