I put forth superhuman effort in physical and occupational therapy inorder
to overcome my physical limitations. Unfortunately still have some fine
motor skills issues -- including muscle spasticity in my right hand and arm
that manifests itself when I try to type too fast.

Of course, you alrady knew all this, because you've visited my website and
once left a crude message on my guestbook which I deleted the same day.

I do find it somehow fitting with your syle, however, that you would mock
someone's disability.

athletic and very active, no artheriosclerosis. It was a freak blood clot
that lodged in my brain stem.

I have lost 55 pounds on Atkins, on Atkins I've lowered my BP to 120/70
while getting off of two BP meds; my HbA1c has gone from 9.l0 to 6.0 on
Atkins; my fasting blood glucose has gone from 137 to 91 on Atkins (no meds
for T2 diabetes), my cholesterol ahs gone from 232 to 188 on Atkins while
HDL has risen, and my triglycerides have gone from 632 to 217 on Atkins.
My M.D. says that I am her "best patient" and uses me as an example of what
motivation and dedication to self-improvement can do for one's general
health condition and reducing risk of CV disease.

Hmmm, I wonder which one of these changes is the predecesor to heart attack
and death that you babble about in ignorance?

Aren't you even a little bit embarrassed by your lack of knowledge?

Of course I know why I had my stroke, it was just not germane to the Atkins
bashing.

I had rheumatic fever when I was a child and a resultant murmur from the
strep infection in my heart. A few weeks after my stroke in 1998 (at 46
years old), an inter-esophogeal echocardiogram revealed that a clot had
formed from blood pooling at the sticking heart valve. Apparently a piece
of the clot had broken loose and lodged in my brain stem. (This was not
discovered sooner because the blood clot in my brain stem was at first
mistakenly diagnosed from an MRI as a tumor. When I refused surgery, I was
put on chemotherapy for several weeks as a team of doctors did more
extensive tests). I'm lucky to be alive, let alone having returned to being
fully productive. The neurologist said my recovery was one in ten thousand
for the type of stroke I had, which had affected my "life support" systems
(heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, digestion and body temperature). I
was also paralyzed on the right side of my body and had extreme short-term
memory loss.

I was hospitalized for more than three months (on IV heparin) followed by
intensive in-patient physical therapy, then out-patient therapy until my
insurance ran out. I was on Coumadin for two years. I went from bedridden
to a wheelchair to using a four-point cane to a single-point cane, to
walking today with use of only an "AFO" (ankle-foot brace). My short term
memory gradually returned over the following year. What the doctors had
described as my "life-support systems" eventually returned to normal,
although my body temperature is still always around 96.4 degrees now. My
blood pressure normalized after I lost 60 pounds. Today I am back and fully
functional at my very hectic job as a hotel General Manager. I'm a living
miracle and I thank God every day for the extra time here on earth that He
has given me.

You can imagine how silly evolie's inane remark seemed to me. Like a gnat
buzzing around a cow's tail, to be brushed aside undeserving any furthur
consideration. It is sad when one makes assumptions out of ignorance.
