Thanks Phil, I have been trying to run a little more lately. I
definitely plan to run in October.

I was going to publish my own pictures. However, I don't think I can
find any during my 245 lb era. I was camera and mirror shy. I knew I
was fat, I just didn't want to be reminded of it. It took some
life-changing events to really make a difference in my attitude. Now
that I mention that, I think I could dig up a photo from my sister's
funeral. That was my turning point.

Your friends or relatives might have some pictures, could be worth
asking them. Just like you, I did not enjoy being photographed when I
    was at 223 lbs.

    I found one.

I'm not sure. Identity theft is rampant these days. ;-)

A remarkable difference, Phil. Did you take up running as a way to lose
weight or have you always been a runner?

weight or have you always been a runner?

Not always. I really didn't start any real running program until 1995. At
first the intent was to promote weight loss, but I've found other
intangible benefits that are hard for me to describe.

During the time of the before picture I wasn't doing any exercise. I
started running in 1995. From 1996 to 1999 I ran enough to have decent
times in 4 marathons, but my weight was never less than 185 lbs. I quit
running in 2000. I made a couple of weak attempts to start again in 2001.
In July 2003 (245 lbs) I started a weight loss program using DietPower.
In August (235 lbs) I started walking about 2 miles a day, 5 days a week.
In September (220 lbs) I started mixing in running. By November (195 lbs)
I was doing all running, no walking. By April 2005 I was running about 45
miles per week and was down to my current weight of 165 lbs. The after
picture is July 2005 from the Wine Country Half Marathon in Napa
    California.
