With the 966 you brake and shift with the same (1) finger ... get it
yet?

Fingers on the lever and palm does the shifting. Only
shifter that my finger leaves the bars or grip is my Sturmey Acher 3
speed.

Sturmey-Archer 3sp .... AW, or S3C/TCW-III.

BTW in the 70's Shimano made a twist grip shifter for their 333/333
Trimatic. With a little work it can be adapted to the Sturmey-Archer
S3C.

Bendix "triple" Yellow Band ... shifting and braking with no change in
hand position.

I got one better for you. Way back in the time when the
Stones were kicking to 99,000 light years from home. I hooked up a 3
speed stick shift to a Sturmey Acher and mouted on the top tube of an
English Racer. Now that was one hand on the bars and one on the stick
shifter.
