  1. I got my shipment of fructose powder today, so today begins my
personal test of the "Set Point Theory" today. I'm about 91 kilos and
plan to go down to about 86.

I only used one tablespoon of fructose in a liter of water.

No, I suspended it temporarily, and I've not been tracking anything. I
have been trying to determine whether a noise problem I am having is
tinnitus or something else. I can't figure it out, and it has been so
frustrating that I have had to suspend the fructose trial.

At first I thought it was ventilation machinery in the in the
condominium buildings that was causing the noise, but only one other
person in the complex was having the same problem. So I went to my MD,
who sent me to a hearing specialist, who gave me a hearing test. My
hearing is normal for a guy my age, which is to say it is degrading
gracefully, and the graph of my hearing sensitivity does not match the
pattern usually seen in people who have tinnitus.

I went back to my MD, and we tried antibiotics and antihistamine to rule
out those possibilities. I have tried eliminating things from my diet.
    Nothing makes it go away. All I know is that it is worse in the morning;
it goes away after I swim, and it sounds like an electrical current hum.
My ears feel like they do when I clear them after descending from
altitude in an airplane, kind of full of humming. I never hear it
    outdoors.

I have decided to accept that it is tinnitus, so now I am ready to
forget about it and continue with the fructose trial.

What I have managed to do through this suspension period is to continue
to use fructose as a sweetener in place of table sugar or aspartame. I'm
sure this has had a stabilizing effect on my blood sugar because now,
whenever I eat something with table sugar in it, I can literally feel a
sugar rush. And if I drink a diet soda, I get really jittery. I have
replaced all sugary or diet drinks with unsweetened apple or orange
juice, mostly apple juice. This also stabilizes my digestive system. I
    suppose it is the pectin.

I have tinnitus from time to time. For me, the cause is stress and
excessive caffiene, and lack of sleep is also a common cause. Usually I
can do nothing about it when it starts up so I just tell myself it is
tinnitus and ignore it and try to get to a more relaxed place. Then it
will go away. I have have had it for from hours to minutes at a time.
I didn't develop it until the same period as I developed migraines, both
    ocular and normal.

If you don't hear it when you swim, maybe you should swim all the time.

Are you sure the noise is not emanating from INSIDE your head 🙂

    Eric

PS Please do let us know how the fructose thing goes.

An interesting anecdote. I did a weigh-in tonight for the first time in
about two weeks. I had maintained the use of fructose as a sweetener,
but I had not tried to limit calories. Despite that, my weight was 89.3,
so I haven't lost any ground (it was 88.9 at the last weigh-in). I can't
say for sure, but the fructose might be curbing the false hunger caused
by stress. I will resume the weight loss plan now. The goal is to be
below 85 kilos at the end of day weigh-in. I have two months to reach
the goal. Then it will be Christmas time.

I found that my aluminum foil hat solved this problem. Apparently it was
the government mind control rays causing the noise.

I think there are some real vibrations involved. I think stress induces
a sensitivity magnification of certain, common frequencies. I mean my
brain is being told to pay attention to the wrong stimuli, sort of like
being schizophrenic, I suppose. The danger is that the sound seems so
real that you find it hard to resist inventing a narrative to explain
it, much like Lou suggests above, or like Professor Nash did in "A
    Beautiful Mind."

It is real and I'm not all alone either...I heard others on coast to coast
this morning at 5:00 on my way to the pool. And just because I'm on my
way to the pool at 5:00 am doesn't mean I'm crazy.

The aluminum cap is quite the hit too.

The problem with daily weighing is that your weight can fluctuate by
several pounds just because of the water you carry in your body. Sweat
some of it out and you're lighter; rehydrate and you're heavier. I now
use, and swear by, a free program called the Eat Watch, developed by the
guy who started Autodesk, and downloadable at his web site:

    <http://www.fourmilab.ch/hackdiet/palm/>

That's for PalmOS; there are also versions for various other platforms. I
    run it on my PDA.

You weigh yourself at the same time every day, under as much the same
conditions as possible, and then record the weight in the program. The
program then does a weighted average of the new and previous readings, and
gives you a "corrected" weight as part of a trend line. It's the same
technology they use to extract stock market trends out of wildly
    fluctuating data.

An aberrantly high weight is averaged in, and may not cause the trend line
to move much at all -- which removes the temptation to say, "I dieted
mercilessly yesterday and I still gained weight, so what the heck, I'm
going to pig out today". Aberrantly low weights don't necessarily mean
that you've lost weight, unless the trend line is down.

I am losing weight slowly, dang it, but I'm keeping it off. Eat Watch is
    part of that.

quite a few songs that would drive me
