    *when was www.unicyclist.com formed? 😕 *

    Sometime in early 2001.

The unicycling "forum" was originally an emailing list. Then it became
a Usenet newsgroup (rec.sport.unicycling) with an email gateway so
people could get the newsgroup via email. Then Gilby added the
    unicyclist.com web forum in 2001.

I wasn't active in unicycling back when the "forum" was only an email
list. I discovered the newsgroup back in '96 or '97. I continued to
use Usenet and the email list for several months after Gilby launched
unicyclist.com. I was a slow adopter because Usenet and the mailing
list worked plenty well enough for me back then.

So there is a lot of history to the group that happened before Gilby
made the web forum. The web forum did make the group more accessible to
more people. The number of people posting and the number of posts
increased a lot after Gilby launched unicyclist.com.

If this "forum" was still just a Usenet newsgroup the number of people
posting here would be a lot smaller. The web forum opened the group up
to a lot more people who have never even heard of Usenet.

Unicyclist.com was launched in March 2001. Only ten months later, in
Janaury 2002, 50 percent of the posts were originating from the forum.
So, if John switched to using the forum after "several months" he may
well have been a fast adopter.

I tried to more precisely assess those "several months" by using
Google Groups Advanced Search, but they have a new Beta version out
    which behaves badly for me.
