I could find room to agree with you if the OP hadn't admitted to yakking on
his cell phone at the time.

Yep. Collecting some yahoo riding the wrong way while making a right
turn is an incredibly easy thing to do. If it happens while you're on
the cellphone, it was an avoidable accident and is your fault as much
or more than the wrong way cyclist, since you're driving "impaired"
(studies suggest about the same amount of impairment as driving at the
    legal limit of blood/alcohol).

    That said, I'm still 99% certain it's nothing but a troll - I just
hate to miss an opportunity to point out that people who talk on the
phone while driving are idiots (literally and figuratively).

As has been pointed out in the past, most "accidents" are not caused by
one person alone. I'm pretty tough on folks talking on cell phones
while driving. But it is legal in some states. Riding the wrong way
isn't. So in this case, I'd say that the "bike rider" (I won't call him
a cyclist) has to take the majority of the fault. If anything, he
should pay for damage to the car.

need one. I am, however, still an idiot ;-)

Ah the cell phone, the modern version of the ball and chain. The last
thing I would want on a long bike ride is a #@$! cell phone ringing in
    my ear.

If the television has made everyone fat and stupid, the cell phone has
made us frustrated. This has happened to me, more then once.

You take your significant other (SO) to a nice restaurant, not the place
where a pimple coated, teeny bopper says wa fry wi dad, but a place with
a Maitre de. Were talking the nice wine, the candles, the real plates
and forks, the dark lighting, you know, the kinda place you can afford
to go, maybe once or twice a year, when your bonus at work, or tax
    refund comes in.

Then all of a sudden, BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRING, YEAH, BLAH BLAH BLAH,
typically at a volume that would drown out a Who concert. The person
then proceeds to BLAH at that volume, usually in another language, you
can't even get some entertainment out of it, for the next hour.....

You want to "go postal" at that point, starting with the guy on the cell
    phone......

Not an idiot, but don't get caught 30 miles from anywhere with an
unfixable break. That is the only real reason I carry a cell phone and
even then I am a long way out of a coverage zone. The carriers just
won't put out the expense of towers in the mountain recreation areas
unless they are near very busy resort areas like skiing for instance.
For us lone bikers the best we can hope for is to limp or carry our
bikes to a coverage zone and call home/911. Most things can be fixed on
the road but some do require a car to take you home or directly to the
LBS in your area, or worst case, the E.R.

That's why I leave it turned off unless I need to use it. Duh!
