All right all you "plus size" Clydes out there!!!
Time to take it down for bragging rights...
We'll need:
Your current weight.
Weight of your bike.
Weight of all the Cr@p you haul around on your daily commute.
Any remarks you feel like adding.
I'll start:
I'm 5'8", 230lbs. "Freddy Fender", my daily commuter hybrid, is 37lbs (no,
that's not a typo, I've got at least 5lbs+ of lock, lights, racks and
fenders hung off a bike that's almost 32lbs to begin with). I haul a pack
containing 2lbs of tools; plus a pump, tire kit, spare tube, rain gear
(shell and pants), visor shades, 2 meals worth of food, a litre bottle of
water, socks, shirt, chamois shorts, wallet, keys, glasses (reading). The
pack itself is about 2 lbs and loaded with stuff it weighs about 10lbs
SO: me - 230lbs
bike - 37lbs
pack - 10lbs
Total 277lbs.
My route is @ 17k (10 miles + ) and takes 40 mins. Discounting the 10 mins
it takes to go over the Alex Fraser Bridge, I make nearly 10 miles in 30
mins, or about 20Mph. And yes, those are (mostly) flatland miles.
