  1. Rachel Ray's not fat she's just big boned.

  2. Michael,

Your summary of Rachel is right on, IMHO. But, for some reason, she's hot!
Wasn't she on Leno or something?

I do not care. She is annoying as hell. Her BS recipes tick me off.

I think she's kind of cute, but annoying. She is a chatterbox.

LOL... she is built. I'll give her that.

i realize she's not your cup of tea, or type of beverage for that matter. if
i didn't want to do her, i'm sure she would annoy me as much as she annoys
    you :P

Getting a meal on the table in 30 minutes is not that hard. Rice and a
meat + vegetables stirfry is nearly always done in 30 minutes. So is
pasta with any number of fresh sauces. But many of her recipes depend
too much on (more costly) already prepped things, such as chicken
breasts already boned and skinned, veggies already cut and washed,
etc., which I would consider sort of cheating to beat the artificial
    deadline.

OTOH, some wonderful things cannot be rushed. I had Rabo Encendido, an
oxtail stew, at a Cuban restaurant last week. Sooo good. -aem

Don't forget that people run around during commercial breaks
setting up the ingredients she'll need for the next dish. She doesn't
have to look through her stuff to find this or that, it's right there.
    Wasn't there earlier. That's quite a timesaver.

Most of my dinners take less than 30 minutes, except when I am baking
something, and baking tends to be a tad healthier than a steady diet of
    fried foods and pasta.

She is cooking for people are are pressed for time and have to feed a
family. Some people may consider the extra cost for the slightly prepared
foods to be a good investment. I have to wonder why her 30 minute meal
concept is limited to her slaving in the kitchen instead of her organizing
the family to help. I would think that many families could learn to work
co-operatively in the kitchen. One of the kids could be trimming beans
while she is doing something else. I am sure than even Rachel's offspring
might be smart enough to be able to rinse a few leaves of Romaine and slice
    some tomatoes and onions.

Sounds great. My wife does a great job with oxtails. She is the braising
queen. But damn it I hate buying oxtails. Them and shirt ribs. They are
the sort of things we used to buy when we were first married and they were
dirt cheap. I can get a better feed of steak for less money and not take
    hours to cook it.

I noticed that too 🙁 I like her show but wish she would show right
from scratch. I'd say an hour from start to finish if you have to do
all the prep yourself. You can cut the time down doing pre-prep earlier
in the day. I'd rather do my own prep.

What is that one show involving meal planning and nice meals. Sorry,
I'm having a brain blank but I do like the show. The host has 7 kids
and then turned to meal planning?

What? ....you want her to show how to behead, pluck, and gut a chicken
to get the breasts? You want her to start in the garden yanking
carrots out of the ground? I don't know where you folks are living,
but I have a harder time finding bone-in chicken breasts than
boneless. Already washed and cut fresh veggies are as common as
frozen peas. Sure, all this stuff costs a bit more, but I can't think
of a single supermarket chain that doesn't carry it in every
    pre-prepared form imaginable.

On the time thing, I rountinely make full meals in less than 30 mins.
Last night I had pan fried sirloin steak, steamed brocolli crowns and
a 5 veggie salad with roquefort cheese, oil, & vinegar, all
accompanied with a nice glass of merlot. The whole thing from start
to finish probably didn't take more than 15 mins to prepare. Besides,
it's not like "30 mins" is featuring Thanksgiving dinner.

As for all the sniveling about how Rachel has all the makin's within
easy reach, I don't get this at all. I have no kitchen island. I
don't have to turn around and walk back to get anything. Unless I
have to go to the refrigerator, I have only to reach up, down, left or
right to get everything I need. What's so unrealistic about having
    everything within reach?

I guess the real reason I posted is, I just don't understand all the
animosity and vitriol aimed at Rachel Ray. The threads trashing her
abound in this group. Even sweet and gentle regulars who "wouldn't
hurt a fly" seem to exhibit an uncharacteristic enthusiasm for
dogpiling on RR for whatever imagined flaw. She's too cute, too
talkie, too annoying, too..., ad nauseum. Holy [censored]! You'd think she
stole your husband or kidnapped your kids or shot your dog (there's a
country and western song in there, somewhere) for all the hostility
she arouses. Get a grip, people. She's just a person with a couple
    cooking shows, not the anti-Christ.

SNIVELING??? I don't think so. Commenting is not
sniveling. My point was if every ingredient was at my
hand because during commercials, someone put all the
stuff right up front where I could just grab it, that is
cheating. Finding the spices and the pans that I need,
hell, even the plates, it all takes time.

Have you actually seen the show? Watch for
continuity. Pay attention. Watch her fako
cabinet, notice it was empty in the first segment,
she goes back ... Well! I guess the food fairy
stopped by, all my ingredients for the next dish
are up front and center! What ARE the odds.

I think you are overstating it. She is often irritating, but I haven't
seen vitriol. She's annoying (yes, as am I), but she's okay in my
    book.

Here's the difference. I am not airing a show saying I can get
a meal on the table in 30 minutes. She is. And she is cheating.

Sorry, it took me 5 minutes to find a spice I wanted yesterday.
The food fairy forgot to clean out the spice cabinet and place
the sunny paris right up front.

A good example of Real vs. TV Reality. Lots of other cooking shows
accomplish the same meals in the same time with the same tricks.

Didn't they give her an hour show once?

What bothers me is, when is somebody going to put a new lightbulb in her
    refridgerator?

Yeah, but I do. People call her irritating and annoying, yet watch
her show often and close enough to note every little detail to niggle
and nitpick. If she's so irritating, why watch? It's like people sit
around and purposely watch RR just so they have material to snivel
    about. Such pettiness.

Anyway, don't take it personally, Nancy. I just happened to tack on
to your post to get in the thread. It's like Rachel Bashing is a
favored pastime in this group. I'm sure my commments are not going
    to change anything.

They have nothing to contribute, so they bash. You know the type.
They need to pick on someone... Martha was in the hooscow, so they
turned on Rachael. Rachael is probably crying all the way to the bank,
    just like Martha does.

a few cooking tips, bring 'em on.

  18. I watch her show sometimes but I do think she talks too much. Sometimes
a little quiet is a good thing. And yes I've done on air interviews,

  20. I think you folks should chill about the "30 minute" thing. I watch her
show because I find it entertaining. Nothing more, nothing less. If you
want a gourmet cooking class, go sign up for one. I know there's no way I
could prepare, complete, and serve what she does in 30.

And as far as having things within reach being "cheating," how about just
having things in the house? I was all set for cajun blackened fish last
Friday, or so I thought. Alas, I have the fish on the counter, pan very
hot, and as I'm assembling the seasonings, and I find the jar of thyme is
empty. Da**, how did *that* happen. Had to turn off the burner, put the
fish back in the fridge because of the cats, and run out to the corner
    store for the thyme.
