A mate of mine had a regular walking partner who would only walk on
made up roads - and they did quite long walks.
I find road walking can sometimes be interesting, but that pint or
meal at the end is good to keep in mind. I see things I miss when
driving - it's good to be able to take my eyes off the road for a
change - very relaxing. If you're into architecture or industrial
archaeology, some roads - even main routes - can be fascinating.
One other thing to bear in mind - the main road is probably the most
direct route. This is certainly true for Birmingham to Coventry.
