  1. Not wanting to side with JCD here, but puff pastry could never be low-
carb. You need the extensibility of wheat flour. VWG would be
impossibly tough, and nuts/seeds/powders too crumbly. Either

    1. Do without it
    2. Save up for it by exceptionally low carbs for a few days (meat,
meat, meat), then a small helping of your chicken pot pie with only half
    a pastry cover, then cardio.

Fact is, no WOE can give you everything you want. If you find LC too
restrictive, you might be happier on WeightWatchers or something
    similar.

Um, Bob? The guy lied to you. That wasn't shaving gel. It was Naval
Jelly - the rust remover. It was a bet. You understand of course.
There was beer riding on it so the guy isn't really to blame.

A real challenge - has anyone here successfully made a replacement
for Puff pastry or should I just replace it with a few sheets of
    Filo??

Just got a real craving for Chicken & Mushroom pie and I really fancy
the 'bite' of the pastry as it flakes(drool) the filling isn't enough
    on it's own, somehow

    Hi elise,
I know of no substitutions, I may be a crappy cook, but I am a greek one.
🙂 Not trying to imitate Mr. JC here but filo is not low carb. One
sheet of filo has about 16 carbs, and if you want to fill it with
something savoury it'll take at least 3 sheets or more.
Hope this helps and good luck, if you do find a decent substitution, tell
me about it. I do miss spanakopita the most.
    Monica.

Don't know what brand you use or if you make your own but 1 sheet of
phyllo/filo dough (9"X14"😉 is 7 grams of carb. I always get the twin pack
and keep it frozen. Here is the ingredient url for the brand I use:
    http://www.athens.com/consumers/fillodough.html#nutrition

FTR, it doesn't take much to have a wonderful texture and a delicious taste.

I remember my dad had one, but it was early 70s - probably about a '71
when the tail was taller and the whole car had a more sharklike
appearance. It was silver-grey. God that was a gorgeous car. Were I
ever to say "to hell with gas mileage" my dream car would be a '73

Monica - we should figure out a LC spanikopita and baklava recipe :o)
    that would be awesome!!!
    -JoAnna (another Greek cook...)

Well...the baklava I could skip. On the other hand, in the old days, I
could eat a tray of galaktobouriko no problem! That was always my
    favourite dessert.

I don't care much for kourambiethes, but I love loukomathes and
melomacarona. I had two loucomathes in October when my sister brought some
back from the Greek Food Fest. It was hard to resist. And I also had a
melomakarono at Christmas, but just one! 🙂
