Several people have mentioned reporting an incident like this to the police.

I would have thought you'd get the standard "<sucking of teeth> I'm afraid
there's not much we can do about that, sir".

There has been at least one story here were people have actually been hit by
cars and the police have not been interested.

Their usual excuse is that "It would just be your word against his".

Sometimes, sometimes not. A colleague reported an incident of road
rage like this to the police, and it turned out the person concerned
had other complaints about him on record, so it was well worth
reporting it. (I.e more ammunition for Mr. Plod when they finally
caught up with him).

The only thing you can be certain of is that, assuming a plodman didn't
witness the incident, if you do nothing nothing will result.

The other thing to remember is that your [censored] must have a _really_ [censored]
life to get wound up so easily. It's like bullies at school - utter scum
until you find out what hellish/inadequate lives they have.

Most of the drivers that nearly kill you do it because of incompetence
rather than aggression, so getting angry is rarely appropriate. Ignoring
it is my policy, although a friendly "hello, could I have a bit more room
next time" gets results in the ones that are actually dangerous.

Once, when I said as a car passed too close "you're a bit close mate"
the driver deliberately jinked his car towards me, then accelerated,
stopped and got out ready to [censored] me.

It doesn't always work like that. Some people really are just scum.
I almost wish I'd provoked him a bit more - it was near the end of the
Londo to Cambridge and just around the corner were some police. If he'd
tried to chase me he'd have been in the [censored].
